Hits home
Revisado: 05-17-23
As an adult who comes from a childhood where I had 2 EI parents that were divorced, plus a EI stepdad, this book really hit home.
I’ve read Gibson’s other books and they were just as helpful. I loved how this book gave examples of specific instances that an adult child would run into when it comes to EI parents and how to handle it.
For the low grade reviews about this book, my personal opinion is that those readers either never had experience with emotionally immature parents before and were looking for an actual parenting book — in which case this is not it — or they were weren’t taking it for what it is.
I loved this book and plan on applying it to my interactions with my emotionally immature parents that I still have contact with.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Such a good book!! I really loved this, even though it was super twisted.
I really liked like the author made Zade good, especially with his job, even though he was definitely stalking Adeline… I know for many people the stalking and seduction of Adeline was a lot to handle, but personally I loved it. I can see how it can be a fine line though.
Very well put together with an EXCELLENT cliffhanger for the second book!

Wrong Narrator for this book
Revisado: 08-09-22
So, the narrator herself wasn’t bad, but I think they picked the wrong narrator for this book. As they described the main character, I pictured her more in her 30s/40s, however the narrator easily sounds like she’s in her 60s or older… which completely threw off the energy as I was listening and almost made me want to stop a few times because it didn’t seem to flow correctly.
The book in the beginning was interesting, then hit a null point in the middle and picked up again at the end. So all in all, it was alright but I probably wouldn’t read it again.

Loved \ Hate at times, but good overall
Revisado: 06-23-22
Overall this book was really lovable. The main parts about the book that were quite annoying to me were the political undertones throughout the whole thing…. I feel like this book would’ve easily been 5 stars for me without all of that nonsense included. In addition, Jo (Joanna’s) character annoyed me a bit at times. I’m not sure why… maybe it was the political undertones she carried throughout the whole book.
Aside from that aspect, I would say it’s worth the credit. The narration was suburb.

Revisado: 04-19-22
This book was recommended to me by a friend, and after joining a CoHo book club, I was unsure how I’d feel because the other CoHo books I’d read all seemed to be the same high school drama, toxic relationship based books.
But THIS ONE was a total switch up and I LOVED it. It’s by far my absolute favorite CoHo book!! It was suspenseful, had the romance aspect, and included a juicy twist. Haha
Definitely worth the credit or $$$
Give me more like this Colleen!!!

** Spoiler Alert **
So I really loved this book… but there were also negatives about it too.
• the odd, subtle racist remarks threw me off a bit… at least they came off as racist to me. Specifically one of the main characters mentioning that she couldn’t picture the Washington owning a home like that because they were black. However, I wonder if this was the writers way of showing she was being stereotypical and uninviting about people instead of more open minded like her husband? In that situation I can’t say I would let anyone in either.. but it wouldn’t be because their skin color
• I felt it needed to be longer… not just for the obvious lack of ending and closer to the book, but there was a lot more I feel the writer could have dove into??
Overall I still liked it… I just want more

* SPOILER* Loved but also a bit disappointed
Revisado: 06-02-21
The book overall was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, I really loved the story telling, the narrator, the characters, etc.
*SPOILER ALERT*
However, the ending sort of disappointed me... I was waiting and waiting for them to say Piper was pregnant, that they got married or were engaged when they were going through the list of “celebrations” for the house warming party, but they didn’t. I understand the author most likely did that on purpose, but it was a bummer. I could care less about her mom and dad honestly, especially once I found out what her dad did, so their “reconnection” was a pointless piece of the story to me.
Other than that, I loved it! Worth the credit and would highly recommend!

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality.
