I have never panned a book b4 but . . .
Revisado: 07-10-23
There were some interesting moments in the hours and hours this book has taken from me. Not enough. I envision an author who has written hundred and HUNDREDS of character and setting ideas and then had to squeeze every single one of them into this book. It was an intriguing concept that needed an honest, tight editor with a strong sense of direction

But a recent miscarriage has left her reeling and her marriage tenuous. Selling her family’s Lake Indigo summer home, which she hasn’t visited in 15 years, feels like the perfect distraction from her problems. Now, she only needs to persuade her younger sister Kelsey to go along with her plan.

Historia
How can you still be a Christian? This is the most common question Diana Butler Bass is asked today. It is a question that many believers ponder as they wrestle with disillusionment in their church and its leadership. But while many Christians have left their churches, they cannot leave their faith behind. Bass challenges the idea that Jesus can only be understood in static, one-dimensional ways and asks us to instead consider a life where Jesus grows with us and helps us through life’s challenges in several capacities: as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence.

Freeing Jesus describes many of the pauses and pondering of my own “spiritual Jesus” and renewed understanding of Jesus. Thank you for this book!

Great Book!
Revisado: 06-28-19
McLaren does a brilliant job of breaking down painful concepts like "the genocide card" in a way that challenges Christians to grow in their understanding of God that opens ourselves to moving from domination to kenosis.
