This book is full of helpful and eye opening statistics. Boys and men are struggling to find their place in the wake of strides made in the name of feminism. The worry of parents about their sons is more present than ever and the author makes some very insightful and interesting suggestions for how we can meet these boys where they’re at and where they want to be. I really appreciate everything said in this book as a wife, mother to sons, and a coach. Thank you!!

Great Book

I'm giving it four stars because it was oversimplified, although that does seem like it would be helpful if you were raised by very emotionally immature parents. The labels she gives - like emotionally immature/mature, externalizer/internalizer - can't define a person. Everyone has all of those and I found it unhelpful to label people exclusively with those terms. With that in consideration, everything Dr Gibson shares is very helpful and insightful. I had many 'aha' moments and her list of emotionally healthful self-statements at the end are measuring tools I will go back to and use again and again. I recommend reading this book to anyone as we probably all have some experience with emotional immaturity in our parents and ourselves.

Not really about the Maori

Just a couple of issues with this one, first, I thought the book would be about the Maori people. It wasn’t. It was about British colonization with very little about the actual Maori people. Maybe that’s my mistake, but the title led me to believe that I would be learning about the Maori people, not imperialism.
The other problem I have with this book was the narrator, overall did a fine job but he mispronounced the word Maori through the book!! How do you read a book about a people and not even learn how to properly pronounce their name? That was very frustrating. I would not recommend this book.

This book is the best! It is good for seventh grade to adults! My 10 year old sister listened to this and she loves it too!! (she is reading the harry potter series, so she is more advanced but...)
