Historia
When The Sandman, also known as Lord Morpheus - the immortal king of dreams, stories and the imagination - is pulled from his realm and imprisoned on Earth by a nefarious cult, he languishes for decades before finally escaping. Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence.

Incomplete
Revisado: 07-22-20
Having read The Sandman In 2002 I was somehow more mesmerized with it then either because I was new to the likes of Gaiman, Grossman, or even Macguire. Or maybe I just wanted more stories like American Gods. Whatever the reason the comic just seemed better then. I am older after all now and possibly more critical, but this time it really did seem more like a dream - random, disjointed, and pointless. It was even more like a parody of a story or stories than an actual story.
I do not think doing only part of the series as one audiobook (Sandman Volumes 1-3) audiobook is enough to make a good impression. It was like listening to a joke without getting to hear the punchline. This should have been released as the complete Sandman original 10 volumes in one unabridged audiobook and perhaps fewer narrators would have helped.

Historia
Eleven years have passed sub Lieutenant John Dunbar became Dances With Wolves and married Stands With A Fist, a white-born woman raised as a Comanche from early childhood. With their three children, they live peacefully in the village of Ten Bears. But there is unease in the air, caused by increased reports of violent confrontations with white soldiers, who want to drive the Comanches onto reservations. Disquiet turns to horror, and then to rage, when a band of white rangers descends on Ten Bear's village, slaughtering half its inhabitants and abducting Stands With A Fist and her baby.

A grim reminder
Revisado: 01-06-20
This follow up to Dances With Wolves was well written and well performed, but this provides no escape from the deplorable foundation upon which this country is built. That story unfortunately tells and condemns itself. This book is unapologetic and unforgiving in its depiction of the plight of Native Americans in US History. You cannot read this book and feel proud of how this country was established.

Religious Allegory much?
Revisado: 07-22-19
Unfortunately this story borrows a little too much from Tolkien’s Dead Marshes and spends too much time with the romantic pairing of characters to make much progress in the series. The characters are so busy making wise cracks one almost overlooks that the story is, I thought supposed to be about a cultural revolution. The language and quips used between characters are more 1990’s Friends sitcom than sword wielding, magic casting characters might be expected to employ. And if all this were not bad enough here comes what seems like a religious theme out of nowhere. Hello C.S. Lewis! Please just write a good story and stop trying to make the characters relatable to someone dating in 1999 New York.

Historia
People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

Amusing story, but the caricature stereotypes
Revisado: 07-03-18
While the book is representative of an amusing take on fantasy it’s attempts to create and develop realistic characters who are not stereotypical is abysmal. The lesbians are an interesting addition, but seem overemphasized and the one African-American character sounds like a character from a 1970’s TV Detective Show with a one word name. The latter even drives a red Cadillac and owns a record store. Really? These issues make the book almost offensive if not unbearable to listen to.

Historia
In the heart of Elizabethan England, Richard Shakespeare dreams of a glittering career in one of the London playhouses, a world dominated by his older brother, William. But he is a penniless actor, making ends meet through a combination of a beautiful face, petty theft, and a silver tongue. As William's star rises, Richard's onetime gratitude is souring, and he is sorely tempted to abandon family loyalty.

Much Ado About Nothing
Revisado: 03-25-18
Somehow Cornwell has been convinced that melodramatic statements are made heroic by repeating the same line twice at the conclusion of every chapter. For example “we were going hunting, hunting for our doom.” Every chapter ends with a corny statement like this. “Tonight we would be the shadows, the shadows that walked.”
Just poor and almost lazy writing. Cornwell has apparently decided upon quantity over quality. It should not be an author’s goal to write and publish as many books as possible especially if 80% of them are not good.

Not as good as the first or second book, but still pretty good.
Revisado: 10-12-17
The style and general suffering of the main characters was similar to the first two books. The best part about these books is that like Dickens Follett believes firmly in Life’s predilection for “comeuppance” and therefore no bad deed by the more despicable characters goes unpunished. While this may be, for some unrealistic it makes for a better story.

Where a good story went wrong
Revisado: 10-08-17
While the first novel was at least a great story told well with only the occasional and well placed divergence into “romance novel,” this second novel proves to be mostly romantic fodder and not much story. The heroine becomes nearly unbearable in her ridiculous and altogether unnecessary efforts to be obstinate for the sake of proving that she is as tough as her companions. She mostly just proves herself to be annoying. Everyone is attracted to her and she can’t figure why. It has been done to death. The romantic nature of this novel unfortunately undermined the plot.

This epic novel by master writer James Clavell, loosely based on the Namamugi Incident and Anglo-Satsuma War that took place in the late 1800s, is a richly researched, panoramic view of Japan’s budding relationship with the Western powers, its sweeping societal changes, and the political upheaval that followed.

Complicated

Too many subtle plots within plots made too important for unclear reasons. Either the story lacked the necessary substance or it was too complex for my complete comprehension.
