Historia
Eddie Sutherland is dead. Normally, Detective Wes O'Brien wouldn't care about another dead drug dealer, but he may just be the man who killed him. Thrown off the force and under investigation, Wes is called upon privately to look into a cheating spouse case.

I Think This Could Have Been Good
Revisado: 01-06-24
I am about halfway through this book right now, and every time I start listening, I decide to just stop altogether. I have always talked myself out of doing so, but frankly, I'm just not enjoying it. I think this could have been a decent story, and maybe it will end up being one, but the dialog is both poorly written and badly performed, I'm sorry to say. I don't like to critique things this way, but this book is just not enjoyable. It took me awhile to get past a Black detective in Indiana speaking in a pronounced Canadian accent, but I did. What I can't seem to move past is the dialog. It just strikes me as amateurishly written. Granted, this just my opinion and one that everybody doesn't share, but I feel compelled to point out that this, for me, just doesn't rise to the overall rating it has. Again, sorry to be so negative.

Historia
Eclipsing the traditional sports memoir, House of Nails, by former world champion, multimillionaire entrepreneur, and imprisoned felon Lenny Dykstra, spins a tragicomic tale of Shakespearean proportions - a relentlessly entertaining American epic that careens between the heights and the abyss. Nicknamed "Nails" for his hustle and grit, Lenny approached the game of baseball - and life - with mythic intensity.

Self-serving Tale
Revisado: 12-30-23
Dykstra has lived an interesting life for certain. If this book is to be believed, virtually everything bad that has ever happened to him has been either someone else's fault, or completely untrue. That isn't too surprising I guess in a book such as this, but it does grow pretty thin. Also, he describes himself and his accomplishments in such a way as to make one think he ought to be given some sort of humanitarian award. The description of his efforts to try and put Charlie Sheen on the right path are almost embarassing to read. Are they true? Who knows. Even if they are are, it's a pretty painful section. Some of the stuff he claims to have done are pretty sad. Getting private detectives to follow umpires around to get dirt on them so he could verbally blackmail them into giving him certain questionable pitches? One hopes that isn't true, but it probably is. This book is not well-written and is full of certain phrases which are repeated throughout the book to the point that it's really hard to listen to. Finally, the reader is, in my opinion, just all wrong for this book. I know a lot more than I want to know about Dyskstra at this point, and at the same time, I'm not sure I know any more than when I started. In essence, I can't recommend it.

The Allman Brothers Band’s Brothers and Sisters was not only the band’s best-selling album at over seven million copies sold, it was also a powerfully influential release, both musically and culturally, one whose influence continues to be profoundly felt.

Be Careful!
Revisado: 09-10-23
I am about 4 chapters into this book, but I felt like I should share my experience thus far. First, the story is an interesting one. Second, although the idea of incorporating tapes of interviews done years ago is a good one, although the audio quality is quite often terrible. Let me put that into context. I listen almost exclusively to my audiobooks in the car. I do not have a particularly exceptional audio system for sure. I can hear the narration just fine, but for me, my factory original, 70+ year old ears cannot understand the majority of what is said in the interviews. I can sometimes figure out what HAS been said via the narration afterwards, but only sometimes. In short, I wish I had bought this book in print rather than as an audiobook. You may not have problems with the quality at all, but if you are of an age which is pretty equal to that of the original band itself, you may experience the same problems I do. It is very disappointing.

Historia
In So Many Ways to Lose, author and lifelong Mets fan Devin Gordon sifts through the detritus of Queens for a baseball history like no other. Remember the time the Mets lost an All-Star after he got charged by a wild boar? Or the time they blew a six-run ninth-inning lead at the peak of a pennant race? Or the time they fired their manager before he ever managed a game? Sure you do. It was only two years ago, and it was all in the same season. The Mets have an unrivaled gift for snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, and then snatching defeat right back again.

Good Book but Beware of Technological Glitches
Revisado: 07-03-21
I really enjoyed this book. It is informative and frequently hilarious. The reader is excellent. All that being said, there are a number of annoying glitches whereby the narrative "skips" as if it has been transferred from a damaged CD. This was a normal situation when I was borrowing books on CD from the library, but I thought it should be eliminated via Audible. I don't really know how much was actually missed in the book - my guess is not that much, but still.... Regardless, without skips, this would be a 5-star overall book in my opinion.

Historia
That Thin, Wild Mercury Sound is the definitive treatment of Bob Dylan's magnum opus, Blonde on Blonde, not only providing the most extensive account of the sessions that produced the trailblazing album but also setting the record straight on much of the misinformation that has surrounded the story of how the masterpiece came to be made. Including many new details and eyewitness accounts, as well as keen insight into the Nashville cats who helped Dylan reach rare artistic heights, it explores the lasting impact of rock's first double album.

Some good moments overall
Revisado: 03-28-19
Right now, I'm probably 75% finished with this. Overall, if you're a Dylanphile you'll find some interesting stuff I'm sure. However, the choice of reader is questionable. It is clear that he has probably never heard any of the songs he's discussing. Also, the editing in terms of mispronouncing of names and song titles is very substandard. Two quick examples: the author spends a great deal of time discussing the importance of "Visions Of Johanna" to the album. I agree, but the reader says "Joanna" approximately 1000 times I think. Somebody should have caught that. Also, the author says that "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window" was mistakenly released as the B-side to "Positively 4th Street." That's incorrect - it was released AS "Positively 4th Street." I know because I actually have that record. The B-side was "From A Buick 6." That makes me wonder about other "facts" reported in the book. I've certainly read worse books, but in general, I'm kind of disappointed.
