The reveal was who I guessed it would be, but the tension was well plotted! Like I expect a good Scandinavian detective novel to be. I will always wonder why the best detective stories come from Northern Europe!

Fine detective novel...read by Harry Bosche himself!

Thoroughly enjoyed the story! I have read most of the Harry Bosche series.. And later watched most of the TV series... Which wasn't quite as delicious as the books but still worked for me!, but still It was a great pleasure to hear this story read by the guy that WAS Harry in the TV series! His voice is really the perfect depiction of Harry's character. It would be more difficult to hear someone else's voice!

Best read in a very long time!

So well written! With barbs of humor… sprinkled throughout and perfectly timed. I loved every character… so much of this novel’s brilliance was highlighted by the narration. It’s among the best I have heard! Every sentiment comes through the audio voice. The readers voice fits the first person like a glove. Sucks me right in.

Good story! Really 3 stories that merged together. Always a good read! Surprised that Honey was killed. I figured she would be his nemesis for life!

What a ride!

This was a wild journey into madness - the madness of our worse nightmares. The story was engrossing and engaging…. And completely lulled me into the direction I thought the story was going and gobsmacked all of my assumptions , like peeling an onion to reveal the white-hot horror …. In stages. It was unrelenting…but oddly delicious! I can’t help but remember the first time I watched a certain film…..many moons ago (…so long ago!) 1987. “Angel Heart” did something similar when I reached it’s awful, dark and ultimately hopeless conclusion .

What a good journey!!

I really found my self taking the ride!! It was fun, intriguing and I want to know what Emma does next!!! Love the Era....and all the sound affects that create the environment of that slice of time! My imagination was fully fueled.

Great story! Well told!

Kept me interested and laughing all the way through! All the characters are fully formed but human...and 3 dimensional...each one a superhero, each struggling with the remarkable and the ordinary world that makes the ride a fun obstacle course. The narrator completely nails the voices of the characters...so that all of them became fully formed in my minds eye. Somebody is going to make a movie....or a TV series out of this! It's a brilliant concept that could find lots of interesting plot points! I'm really happy I stumbled on to this character driven story!

Excellent story telling!

This story held my attention all the way through! I felt emotionally connected to all the characters. The writing was well crafted and rarely went astray, as so much science fiction or fantasy can do! I thought the ongoing threat of invasion upon island inhabitants creates a natural tension through out the story...with periodic suggestions that the reason for the hero's strange appearance...and even the origin of all the planet's human inhabitants may be explained in future installments. The role of women in this first installment is present but I want more and hope the next book will explore leadership roles.

This book made me YEARN to meet an Octopus! Written with great compassion and a profound respect and love of the the grace and beauty of the great truth about the inner life of sentient beings besides ourselves!
