Thus is a great self help book!

Very clear and useful information. So much less sensational than many earlier books for folks whose childhoods still hurt.

Brilliantly balances campy and queer
Revisado: 02-12-23
I was walking with my long-time best friend —she’s a lesbian intellectual and I am a bisexual who just got out of a bad het marriage, found a nonbinary lover and redefined as nonbinary. I told her she would love Josh’s old-school gay male humor because it is also so edgy and smart and inclusive, so one can laugh at cis-white gay male comedy without feeling guilty, and she was so happy to hear it… Well done Josh Thomas!!

Historia
It's 2017, and a raging virus has drastically reduced the world's population of men, transforming all but a fraction into a race of putrid, brain-dead zombies. So what's single, ambitious 23-year-old Hattie Cross to do for fun, not to mention romance? In this hilarious marriage of post-apocalyptic fiction and super smart chick-lit with a wry twist, novelist Lynn Messina spoofs dating manuals, monsters, and the superficial media world, all the while creating a feisty, funny heroine with heart.

This is brilliant
Revisado: 07-10-22
I don’t usually review audiobooks but this one deserves a joyous shout out. I don’t usually like the romance-zombie mashup but i love Lynn Messina and it was free so i tried. What i found was simultaneously brilliant extension of rom-com conventions coupled with breezy/heartbreaking allegory about first-world masculinity. Brava Lynn Messina!!!

Historia
Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally. It was always his father’s hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up...romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine’s proposal she flees into the night determined never to set eyes on him again. Arabella’s twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure “Bonny” Tarleton, has also grown up...romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella.

Very funny, very silly, very hot
Revisado: 05-18-22
Alexis Hall is some kind of genre fiction wizard—i love most everything they write, but they are the ruling monarch of the queer regency romance!!! Great narration too! Least embarrassing and hottest sex scenes ever (maybe other people don’t often feel embarrassed when listening to explicit sex scenes even when al

Required pandemic listening!
Revisado: 03-27-22
This novel is absolutely brilliant—Willis is a superb stioryteller, a serious intellectual, and a comic genius all in one, though people who haven’t spent time in academia might miss the exquisitely black humor of an eager graduate student flung into harm’s way by an idiotic administrator out to make a name for himself and to claim turf for his field while blithely unconcerned about the implications of his actions for anyone, and especially not for the grad student whose fate he has taken into his hands. Best literary villain I have encountered in a long time! But there are many other equally clever themes here, especially to do with recurring patterns of human behavior in the face of a deadly pandemic—definitely read this and share with young folks who like sci fi- the reader must think like an eoedemiologist!!! Which so many more of us need to do —apparentky.

The Scarifyers is a series of rip-roaring tales of comedic supernatural intrigue set in 1930s Britain, distilling the likes of Dick Barton, The Avengers, The Devil Rides Out and Quatermass into cracking new audio adventures. The Scarifyers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra, and has been described in the national press as "a slice of audio perfection," "the smartest and most enjoyable thing on British radio," and "like Tintin but with the lights out."

Works for me!
Revisado: 01-18-16
This was pretty much what i had hoped for; a fine combination of British absurdity and witty cultural/political satire with smart, funny references to prior comic masterpieces from Shakespeare (with great jokes about over the top productions of Shakespeare and their all being blamed on women directors) to Father Ted. Wish i knew who voice actors are-- one sounded so like John Cleese, but surely he would be noted, yes? In any case, VG.

Best of Country Girls Trilogy
Revisado: 03-20-15
I have the suspicion that many people buy The Country Girls trilogy but read only the first novel. If you are a guilty non-completer of this justly famed trilogy, listening to OBrien herself read is the way to go. She is a beautiful reader of her own work, and the final novel abd epillogue are what push the whole trilogy to the calibre of greatness. By all means listen to this!
