Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Could have been so good
Revisado: 02-26-25
This book has a good storyline, multi-dimensional characters, a location that is easy to imagine, and believable plot twists.
My problem is that sex and sex related themes are thrown in and practically every character uses the “f” word conversationally. I’m no prude, but this was not only gross, it was unbelievable as a whole. I wish the outfit had not relied on this for shock value.

Historia
First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her audiobook shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture clichés. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

This story read by anyone but the author would not ring as true. The emotion in certain parts just brings authenticity.

Historia
Nina Garrity learned the hard way that her missing husband, Glen, had been leading a double life with another woman. But with Glen gone - presumably drowned while fishing on his boat - she couldn't confront him about the affair or find closure to the life he blew apart. Now, a year and a half later, Nina has found love again and hopes she can put her shattered world back together. Simon, a widower still grieving the death of his first wife, thinks he has found his dream girl in Nina, and his charm and affections help break through to a heart hardened by betrayal.

Interesting
Revisado: 03-10-22
This story was interesting and definitely kept me guessing until the last minute. I’m not usually a fan of multiple narrators, but the two voices compliment each other and their characters.

Historia
When Angela met Jason Powell while catering a dinner party in East Hampton, she assumed their romance would be a short-lived fling, like so many relationships between locals and summer visitors. To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. For Angela, the marriage turned out to be a chance to reboot her life. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother's home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past.

Twist after twist
Revisado: 02-18-22
If you liked The Last Mrs. Parrish, you will like this. You’re not sure who to believe, or why, and it keeps changing.
Engaging story, the narrator sounds like she’s chatting with you, and it’s a fairly short listen. Great for a car ride.

Historia
At 12, Emily Parmenter is left mostly to herself after her mother disappears and her beloved older brother dies. Emily has built a life around the faded plantation where her remote father and hunting-obsessed brothers raise hunting spaniels. It is a meager, masculine world, but to Emily it has magic. And then comes Lulu Foxworth, troubled daughter of a truly grand plantation, who has run away from her hectic Charleston debutante season.

Complicated story, great read
Revisado: 05-21-19
I am a long-time ARS fan, and this book hits right in the middle of the pack for me. It has richly developed characters, a setting that is a character in itself, and a family story that is as complicated as real life. Having some dark issues told from a child's point of view is unique but this reader does it well.

Historia
They call themselves the May Mothers - a collection of new moms who gave birth in the same month. Twice a week, with strollers in tow, they get together in Prospect Park, seeking refuge from the isolation of new motherhood. When the group’s members agree to meet for drinks at a hip local bar, they have in mind a casual evening of fun, a brief break from their daily routine. But on this sultry Fourth of July night during the hottest summer in Brooklyn’s history, something goes terrifyingly wrong: one of the babies is taken from his crib.

Wow.
Revisado: 09-17-18
This story kept me engaged from the very beginning. My single minor critique is that there are quite a few characters to keep track of, and that can be tricky until the story has developed a little bit. Great subplots, and surprise twists. I really enjoyed this book.

Historia
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

Current hot topic made human
Revisado: 06-18-18
This story is one that will not and can not be taken lightly. Roberts walks the line between the why of mass shootings and how everyone involved, victims, survivors, families, continue to deal with it long after the news cameras stop covering. The main characters are varied in many ways, and come across as real people.

Well read, great character voices, and the time changes flow seamlessly. I felt that people revealed their secrets in due time, and there were plenty of secrets to be revealed. A great international - war - girl - spy novel.

Spellbinding
Revisado: 03-11-18
I could not stop listening to this story. There are quite a few fully developed characters including the state of Alaska itself. The loveliness, ugliness, drama, and depth of family itself are laid open to be examined. My only wish is that the story was longer.
