Historia
Welcome to the Sweet Tooth Ice Cream & Candy Shoppe, where the confections are a bit on the... unusual side. Rock candy that makes you weightless. Jawbreakers that make you unbreakable. Chocolate balls that make you a master of disguise. Four young friends - Nate, Summer, Trevor, and Pigeon - meet the grandmotherly Mrs. White, owner of the Sweet Tooth, and soon learn about the magical side effects of her candies.

Excellent
Revisado: 12-08-21
There was only one negative associated with this audiobook- the dramatic music that sometimes would come in at the end of a chapter. I imagine this was something that people debated during the production of the title and they should, ultimately, have decided to leave it out. It serves as a type of signal to accompany significant points or emotion, but - much like overly dramatic lighting in bad movies - distracts from the often important underlying content.
The is some cursing in a few of the chapters that has generally prevented me from having my younger kids listen to the entire thing, but some great life lessons here for kids and my teen children loved it.
A great listen.

Historia
Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices.

Great listen for a family road trip
Revisado: 02-21-21
We listened to this as a family on some longer drives over two weekends. It was well liked by all (parents and kids aged 14,12,10, and 6). Much of the content was over the head of our 6-year old, but she still enjoyed it and the tweens give it especially high reviews.

Historia
The daughter of a Legion war hero, fighting was in Andien Broxin's blood. But the battles Republic marines face on strange and alien worlds are a far cry from the vaunted, brutal, no-holds-barred conflicts fought at the edge of the galaxy by the elite legionnaires. Until a devastating war erupts right in the Republic’s stellar backyard. Newly stationed on a mid-core planet being harassed by terrorist revolutionaries, Andien and her fellow “hullbusters” find themselves right in the middle of a desperate fight for survival.

A war story set in a future/many worlds setting
Revisado: 07-11-20
There were things I really liked about this title, but it was not what I expected. There are many aspects of current military that are reflected well and anyone who has spent time with the USMC will recognize pieces that have been lifted directly from the experience of almost any combat unit in the early 21st century. In fact, changing the names of equipment and battle locations could very well have resulted in a story set in Afghanistan or Iraq from 10 years ago. One of the great things about good science fiction writing is that it permits exploring new themes because something about the world or its inhabitants is different. This book does not do that. It is generally well written, however, and I liked the characters.
The narration was decent but pronouncing the “s” in corpsmen was like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Mispronouncing a word used repeatedly in a title is jarring and I didn’t feel comfortable giving any more than 2 stars with that issue.

Good, but not as good as the first book
Revisado: 06-16-20
The first book in the series is probably one of my five favorite titles of all time. This one just didn’t hold my interest in the same way. Maybe my expectations were too high; this is still a worthwhile title, but I had expected unusual excellence and this was not that.

Billy Kelly's This Is a Family Show! is a stand-up comedy experience (with music) that parents and kids can enjoy together. From jokes about nocturnal animals and microwaves to Ben Franklin and people throwing turtles, the whole family will laugh along while listening to this comedian’s unique perspectives. It’s comedy toast with the crust cut off. Who needs all that crusty talk about dating, politics, and money, anyway?

Great hour of family fun
Revisado: 06-07-20
We listened to this on a short family road trip and everyone enjoyed it. The last ~25 minutes are reprises of his songs and we didn’t enjoy that as much as the first hour (we turned it off only a few minutes into that portion). I would plan on this being just 65 minutes of material.

Historia
This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

Very entertaining for our family of six with varying ages. My history loving middle schooler loved pointing out historical inaccuracies, but also enjoyed the story as much as everyone else.

Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Historia
Five years. That's how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation. It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash. Coyote hasn't been home in all that time, but when she learns that the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished - the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box - she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state in four days...without him realizing it.

Mixed reviews from our family on this one
Revisado: 06-22-19
We listened to this with our children (ages 12, 11, and 9) during a cross country drive. Our 12-year old lost interest and stopped listening (the only book where he did this) and my wife thought it was super slow. My 9-year old son was the only one who maintained consistent interest throughout.
The book is slow, but I found the story interesting. The author tries too hard at times to pull on emotions when it isn’t necessary and this sappiness was often a distraction.
