This audiobook is for those who are interested in, or troubled by, questions about God's sovereignty and human freedom and responsibility. Christian apologist John Lennox writes in the spirit of helping people understand the biblical treatment of these concepts. In this mind-bending review of the topics of theological determinism, predestination, election, and foreknowledge, Lennox will launch your consciousness into a fresh understanding and appreciation of this important Christian debate and help you think both biblically and logically about the human condition.

I have heard Lennox debating skeptics on video. Good! But this book is much more. It is perhaps best apologetic book

Historia
This Pulitzer Prize-winning history of World War II chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of the Japanese empire, from the invasion of Manchuria and China to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Told from the Japanese perspective, The Rising Sun is, in the author’s words, "a factual saga of people caught up in the flood of the most overwhelming war of mankind, told as it happened - muddled, ennobling, disgraceful, frustrating, full of paradox."

Great tribute to those who fought Imperial Japan
Revisado: 05-31-16
If you could sum up The Rising Sun in three words, what would they be?
Accurate, informative, suspenseful.
What did you like best about this story?
After reading and listening to Rick Atkinson's Trilogy on the War in Europe, I hoped that this would be just as interesting and informative. It was. The final moments at the end. Though I knew Japan surrendered, the narrative left me in suspense.

The Moral Integrity of Combatants Examined
Revisado: 04-03-16
What made the experience of listening to Moral Combat the most enjoyable?
'Enjoyable' is not the appropriate word. Yet the depth of his study is necessary for a genuine understanding of this war from its earliest stages to the end.
What did you like best about this story?
Both Britain and the United States made things worse by compromising peace with military unpreparedness. Great Britain's naval food embargo to Germany after the 1918 armistice is indefensible. The peace after 1945 was insured by the West's (Christian) capacity to 'forgive and give' through the Marshall Plan.
What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?
Clear, articulate and Well paced. He pronounced nearly all the foreign words correctly. He said "Lidice" in Slovenian correctly. Only mistakes in Chinese (I lived in China for eight years.). Wish more audio readers would seek out the help of native speakers.
Any additional comments?
Essential item in any World War Two bibliography.

Historia
In the New York Times best seller Becoming China’s Bitch, Peter Kiernan presents an unflinching manifesto in which he explores five factors that have sustained our national paralysis, then uncovers the 10 challenges that pose the greatest threat to the future of America. Presented from a fresh yet informative Centrist perspective, these ten impending catastrophes include our semi-conscious dependency on China, our lack of a centrally coordinated intelligence effort, and more.

A Centrist with an Attitude
Revisado: 10-15-13
The title is misleading. There is only a brief quip about China. As a student of the current economic crisis, Chinese culture and history I expected more.
Like Mr Kiernan I am a centrist when it comes to social and political issues. You can't ignore the problem; you can't spend your way out of it. Every good piece of legislature involves compromise and making room for unforeseen consequences. Our national tradition is one of compromise, and again more compromise until the greater cause prevails. But in the current angry climate of 'red' and 'blue' political factions, and TV/radio media taking sides for reasons of beliefs and corporate revenues, compromise is a challenge. So I had hoped Kiernan would bring more calm, reflective reason to the national debate.
I was wrong. Kiernan speaks with condescension toward both political colors. He's like the angry man who tries to end his next-door neighbors' domestic quarrel with his own bitter shouting. His solution to America's political division is to divided the country into THREE colors.
That said, there are some very good arguments. Listen to his thinking; ignore his whining
As I listened to the audio I wondered why the anger in Kiernan's words. Is it that anger sells? We used to sell books by hating Jews, Nazis, Catholics and Fundamentalists.' Later we made money and gained power by hating 'Commies.' But now we have come of age (sarcasm). We hate the former President, the current President, the Republicans, the Democrats. We even fight over the voluntary national pledge of "one nation under God." It is the words "one' and "God" we find so offensive.

Historia
Nee-To-Sheng of Foochow, China is best known as Watchman Nee to hundreds of thousands of Christians around the world who have encountered his work. Those who pick up this work, Spiritual Authority, will forever remember the power with which he creates. Here, Watchman Nee discusses authority - the authority of God over humans and the authorities that God sends to humans. This is a profoundly simple and Biblical exploration of God's purposes in His authority over us.

- De: Watchman Nee

This is a flawed work.
Revisado: 10-06-11
Flawed and misleading. Samuel rebuked David. In speaking of David's authority Nee ignores the texts that explain why Solomon, not David, built the temple. And what of Peter's authority? How is it that Paul could confront him? Is not the ultimate authority the Word of God and the Holy Spirit demonstrating fruit, Christian character?
A few more flaws: In this audio book Nee says, “Loneliness is the mark of authority. It is not due to pride but for the sake of representing God’s authority.” What? Look at Jesus' life? Does not Paul mention his beloved friends? Nee asks, “What if the authority is wrong?” Nee says we must obey. What? So when I'm with Peter I require Gentiles to be circumcised; and when I'm with Paul I don't? Nonsense! Paul uses Scripture and a reasoned argument to show Peter the great spiritual leader was wrong. Then there is Nee's breaking the outer man. There's really nothing of that in Scripture. Nee's speaks of breaking the outer shell to release life. While the New Testament and one psalm speak of an inner self, the heart, the voice and true feelings inside our head, there's nothing about an outer shell or outer man. The only 'outer' is the words of our mouth and our physical actions. That should not be "broken" but transformed to conform to a renewed 'Spirit-filled' mind.
By his own standards, Nee is not a spiritual authority. In a sermon given on August 8, 1951, Nee says, “I was pushed to lie.” By then the Shanghai Local Church split in two between those who refused to join the Communist Three-Self Movement, and Nee and his local church group that did. The eyewitnesses I personally interviewed and books still in Chinese say that Nee did more than lie.
Great actors enrich themselves by memorizing and discoursing words of others that are not in keeping with the meditations of their hearts. So many of us prefer the 'dramatis personae,' the double-minded great evangelist, than Stephan the martyr or the humble, faithful small town pastor.

In The Truth about Muhammad, New York Times best-selling author and Islam expert Robert Spencer offers an honest and telling portrait of the founder of Islam - perhaps the first such portrait in half a century - unbounded by fear and political correctness, unflinching, and willing to face the hard facts about Muhammad's life that continue to affect our world today.

Lacks Accuracy
Revisado: 09-27-11
I have taught World Religions in college and have done some research on Islam in China. I am not a fan of Islam nor of its image of God/Allah in the Q'uran. And yet Robert Spencer's book does a disservice to Christianity by using inaccurate translations of the Q'uran and relying on just a few of the more radical ancient Islamc sources.
Arabic, like Hebrew, is a Northwest Semitic language. I may not be able to read Arabic script but I can read with a phonetic script because of it's close association with Hebrew. Any seminary trained Christian can can read Arabic phonetic by studying Hebrew. So I was surprised at some of Spencer's reading of the Q'uran. Spencer is not an Arabic scholar. He ignores the better translations.
There are pacific and militant Muslims. Within a generation of Muhammad's death, Muslims differed as to the militancy of Allah. It may be safe to say that the origin of the confusion is in the ambiguity of Muhammad himself. By siding with the radical interpretation Spencer sees pacific Islam as a contradiction. It's not. It's the part of Islam that will survive the Islamic age of the Internet more than Jihadist swords of steel.

Seeing America better
Revisado: 08-08-05
I buy a lot of audible books and jog with a lot of books-on-tape. This is the first one I listened non-stop. If you think he's wrong you probably are under thirty and have not lived in another country as I have (six year in China). The Americans Goldberg lists are screwing America up far more than George Bush. In fact Goldberg's #1 is a hero among many Chinese youth for showing that America is immoral and a worthy object to hate (Who's #1? Buy the audio and find out.).
I remember reading about a man who survived weeks at sea on a rubber raft. When he came back he could not believe the beauty of the green grass, the mulicolored flowers and the shimmering leaves of the tall shade trees. Coming back from China I could not believe how fat and cynical Americans are. Goldfarb's sees that we need to trim down our diet of cultural screw-ups and build up on the honor, respect and love that is a more important part of our American heritage.

I??ve Listened to it three times.
Revisado: 01-22-05
Nicholi, a Harvard University teacher-psychiatrist, uses his analytical skills to interpret the life and teachings of Freud the atheist and Lewis the Christian apologist. They were two men of different temperaments. Yet early in their careers both were attracted to and repelled by the idea of god. They spent the rest of their lives persuading others to affirm their very different conclusions. This is the best introduction I have read/heard about these two great minds of the 20th century.
