Historia
At five and 20, Prudence Merryweather knew very well the risks a woman took by visiting a gentleman in the dead of night. But bearding the notorious Earl of Angelstone in his den was the only way to stop him from engaging her hot-headed brother in a duel. And that was why she found herself ushered into Sebastian's forbidding presence at three in the morning - and thoroughly kissed before dawn.

How bad the narrator was
Revisado: 12-22-23
The way the narrator voiced the male characters. She deepened her voice down in her throat as if she were choking and adopted a weird accent that was really off putting. The males all sounded like bad parodies of sexed up vampires.

Historia
Jane Lonsdale had been dismissed from her position at Miss Prism’s Academy because the music master had tried to kiss her. Jane went to her aunt, having no idea that the housekeeper had married Lord Pargeter, who promptly died. Neighbors at nearby Swann Hall were suspicious about the will, and Lord Fenwick, a visitor, decided to investigate. Though Jane’s past hinted of scandal, Fenwick was intrigued.

A gentle Regency Romance
Revisado: 05-20-23
Pros: Very much in joan Smith’s style. Humorous and sweet.
Cons: Lots of American expressions used throughout and the narrator had an unusual style -a bit sing songy. I hope they find a better reader for any other Joan Smith books.
The narrator didn’t know how to pronounce ‘hyperbole’ properly. (Hyperbolee - not hyperbowl )

My favorite of all of her books
Revisado: 08-17-22
Loved the narration by Clifford Norgate. And I love the story. It has all the charm of children, a dog, a feisty heroine and a flawed hero who improves his character over the course of the story. And there are no off-putting racist zingers to pull one up short ( ie references to greedy Jewish money lenders).

Strange accent by the narrator
Revisado: 06-22-21
The narrator has a very pleasant voice but the strange accent she adopted reminds me of Moira from Schitts Creek. She pronounces Aunt deBerg as ‘ONT’ deBerg. Very difficult to listen to.

Not my favourite. It’s hard to listen to her referring to the money lender as Jew King.
Revisado: 06-04-20
This was well narrated but not my favourite Heyer book. I suppose it’s historically accurate but it’s hard to listen to the casual racism in this day and age.

Marred by a breathless narrator with poor phrasing
Revisado: 10-19-19
The story is good but why oh why did they choose this narrator? He speaks in a fussy, odd way, with clipped phrasing like an old school marm. His voice rises 2-3 times in one paragraph as if he’s asking questions all the time. He sounds like he’s reading in the voice of a fussy old lady.
He’s only ever narrated the three books in this series and that’s three too many. One of the joys of audible is to have first rate actors reading the books but audible has severely short changed us here. Such a huge disappointment.

Historia
Sam Prichard was a cop, and a good one, until bullets took out the joint of his right hip. Now he's trying to learn to live without being a cop, getting to know his neighbors, learning to walk again and even ride a motorcycle. Life is bearable, barely, but then he gets asked to find a missing child, and the lure of getting back into some kind of police work is too much for him to resist. When he teams up with computer whiz Indiana Perkins, he suddenly becomes one of the best investigators he's ever even known.

Christian themes. Preachy yuk.
Revisado: 06-29-16
I wish I had known that this book was going to mention prayer and religious crap. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known.
Jarring and awful. I made it to chapter 4 and then ditched it. The reader wasn't very good either.
