Historia
Almost everything has been invoked to account for Trump's victory and the rise of alt-right, from job loss to racism to demography - everything, that is, except popular culture. In The Sky Is Falling best-selling cultural critic, Peter Biskind, dives headlong into two decades of popular culture - from superhero franchises such as the X-Men and the Avengers and series like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones to thrillers like Homeland and 24 - and emerges to argue that these shows are saturated with the values that are currently animating our extreme politics.

The reader is fantastic
Revisado: 05-03-21
This book is non fiction. The title is a little misleading. Whatever the case is, the author's view is a bit a-historical. He mentions anti communist witch hunts in the 30s with the same disdain he offers to the origins of the KKK. I think he has a good point when talking about how movies talk past our brains and touch our emotions. I also think he's about 30 years too late for the observation. If you like this book read, "manufacturing consent." If you don't, read it anyway but I'm digressing. I think his idea to be in the middle of anything precludes the idea of something being right or good which honestly does less to further the conversation.
The book is very focused on movies if you fancy yourself a movie buff you might like it, you might also be have to had these conversations in already so ... That's the review!
Oh right, the readers performance is on point. Voice as dire as the subject often is, reminds me of rod sterling.

audioplays need some prose or some kind of build up because the unnatural dialogue driven exposition doesnt lend it self to humor.

thumbs up

the reader was a little bland at times and some words were mispronounced but the story was enthralling. the cliffhangar ending was not as potent as it could have been.
some of the metaphors were absolutely striking!

luke daniels is great
Revisado: 04-11-18
id kinda become fed up with the series for a while. atticus is a hard hero to get behind because he can easily be framed as having no faults.
what id liked about these books were the extravagant crazy scenes and the humor the characters brought to them. (shakespear quipping while in a car chase with a greek god makes me laugh every time)
so it did me good to return to some of that cooky fun that made me like the series in the first place. if youre wondering if the book is worth it, atticus tells oberon to check his privaledge.

i couldnt finish it
Revisado: 04-08-18
i really enjoyed the main character but she kinda turns to butter halfway through the book and then everythings about vampires.
light spoilers
it was humorous until the vampire retreat but it never got me on board with the whole forbidden romance thing. i think that was my main problem. i realized there would be romance and even that it would be central to the plot going in. but the vamp character is wierd and agressive and controling and its played as romantic.
the main character has a good" lie she tells herself" and some interestimg hooks. im sad it got overrun by the vamp char.

Historia
Where the Marble Arch stands today in London was once the Tyburn gallows - also known as The Hanging Tree. The walk toward those gallows along Oxford Street and past the Mayfair mansions has a bloody and haunted history as the last trip of the condemned. Some things never change. For both blood and ghosts have returned to those mansions of the super-rich. And it's up to Peter Grant - England's last wizard and the Metropolitan Police's reluctant investigator of all things supernatural - to get to the bottom of the sinister doings.

refreshingly weird.
Revisado: 08-13-15
There are a lot of books that cannot manage to be more than reasonable people doing reasonable things in a mildly interesting world, this manages to lightly and intensely introduce interesting characters and an interesting world in a well paced yet quickly twisting plot. It might be a "not knowing the rules of this universe yet," thing but I don't think so.
I like game of thrones, dresden files, the reckoners , sand man slim, the book of kings, repairman jack, monster hunter international, the iron druid chronicles, and the Peter grant series.
The performance was good, maybe great but it's difficult to separate performance from story for me.
