Historia
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Profound…
Revisado: 04-14-25
I was immediately drawn into this story. I don’t cry reading books but this book got to me. Several times I was brought to tears. I remember those war years and being a new nurse in the early 70s, I thought about joining the Army and serving my country in Vietnam but my oldest sister who’s husband was in Vietnam at the time talked me out of it. Thank you for writing this excellent story.

Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Wonderful memoir
Revisado: 08-05-24
An educational, heartwarming, dramatic accounting of several decades of public service in service to the country and world. Dr. Fauci has dedicated his life to improving the health of millions of people by his vigilance during some of the worst health crises. His explanations and public appearances helped quell anxiety by his knowledge, experience and expertise. How fortunate we were to have him during these very stressful times.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

I loved this story. Very personal, raw memoir. There were painful parts and very funny parts. I enjoyed hearing how she survived a very difficult childhood to become a talented actor.

Historia
Myrlie Louise Beasley met Medgar Evers on her first day of college. They fell in love at first sight, married just one year later, and Myrlie left school to focus on their growing family. Medgar became the field secretary for the Mississippi branch of the NAACP, charged with beating back the most intractable and violent resistance to black voting rights in the country. Myrlie served as Medgar’s secretary and confidant, working hand in hand with him as they struggled against public accommodations and school segregation, lynching, violence, and sheer despair within their state’s “black belt.”

This book is a wonderful historical book telling the story of Medgar and Myrlie Evers. We learn so much history of the civil rights movement through the story of their love for each other. Joy Reid does a masterful job narrating her book.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Liz Cheney has a thorough grasp of the constitution. She cares deeply about our country and where it could head if we don’t pay attention—and vote. Her passion comes through in her thoughts and writing.
I have never voted Republican but I would vote for Cheney. I now understand with her leadership we would be in very capable hands.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
