the story was fine. interesting ideas. some of which only get mentioned once or twice and dropped. it is like the author wanted to write a book that would gross you out with extremes and then didnt actually do any detail really into that. just a surface level nod to "evil"

and god damn get an editor. there were more then a few "clearing throat" moments and times where the narrator started a sentence over again.

the narrator wasnt that bad themselves but the lack of editing was so bad/nonexistent.

This was an amazing suprise. I decided to give it a chance based solely on the reviews and it was worth it.
The book is hilarious in a semi-realistic take on a dragon's mind. I hope there is more on the way.

Extremely meh, standard fantasy flair

While this isn't the typical vancian wizards and warriors kind of fantasy. It wasn't exactly anything fresh.
humans are low magic and live in a very medieval kind of world (at least that is the impression i got)
and all the magic is in the elven kingdom, etc....
there are a couple special humans though...

There are contradictions in the book and the MC is a total moron. There are just parts of the book where i am sure the MC deliberately refused to put pieces that are right in their face together just so it didn't mess up the story the author had planned. I backed this on kickstarter as it seemed interesting. I regret it and I probably won't read the rest of the series I got as ebooks from the kickstarter.

extremely meh, and i will probably never finish the last hour i have in this audiobook.

also the times they referenced "a knife's edge" in the book i felt was not normal speech and cringe worthy. I am fairly certain it was simply put in there so they could have the title in the book or for the title to make sense in the context of the book.

pretty good book but not quite done

why the heck do you still have the previews for the next book in a compilation/omnibus style book? your previewing the book that starts as soon as the preview is over? what shoddy editing. did you literally just smash them all together into one file with no changes?

the book so far is interesting though if a bit obvious so far in its plot. I will have to see how it unfolds throughout the rest of the books before I can truly review it.

the way some of the characters act, particularly claire are just not believable. the whole thing seems contrived and people have motives for the stories sake rather then what their motives would be in certain situations.

Alex is an absolutely terrible character. the only way I can make it fit in my head is that to be an avatar you need certain affinities and he is like the lady's only choice. excellent example of failing their way to success.... which never works in any semblance of reality.

I'll read book 4 but really only because of the reviews currently praising it. if it doesnt turn around fast I'll be dropping it. that is just how little versimillitude there is in my opinion.

good book. love the magic system in this world. it shall be interesting to see where it goes from here.

as a side note:
could have done without all the look at me I include non binary people in my book and it is perfectly normal in this world, and here are their pronouns cause that is only polite. it was so in my face during that explination to Keras. It was cringe inducing. There are much better ways to add twists to the norm or be inclusive without being so in my face about it. It totally ripped me out of the story.

I waited a long time to grab this. it isn't quiet my normal style of book. I am sad, both that I waited so long and that it is now over. awesome listen!

loved this book but whoever did the editing is just crap.
especially later in the book words get dropped and there are terrible transitions. it is just bad. the book and the narrator is top notch. minus the weird yelling voice he does sometime.

the story was kinda like a filler episode. you saw some growth In the apprentices. however, overall I feel like a lot was kind of skipped over.

love the series though and while the book was welcome it wasn't quiet as fulfilling to listen to as the first three books. I look forward to the next one!
