Historia
A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Worth rereading
Revisado: 07-04-23
This is my second time listening to "The Masterpiece". The plot is realistic and believable. The human transformation through God's Word encourages me every time. I would recommend the book to teenagers, young adults and older. The only thing that concerns me in the author's writing is the use of the small voice and how vividly the characters hear it. I believe that the Holy Spirits talks to us in marvelous ways but not so audibly and directly as presented in this books and others by Mrs. Rivers. Besides this, I enjoy everything about this story.

Historia
Following an attack that killed her mother and stole her ability to speak, 21-year-old Sophia Montgomery has no choice but to accept her estranged grandmother's offer to return to their family home. Although detective Julian Frazier is working hard on the case, Sophia unknowingly frustrates him because her inability to speak thwarts her eyewitness evidence. The fact that Julian is undeniably attracted to Sophia doesn't help either, so Julian hides his feelings as concern for a trauma victim and focuses instead on finding the killer.

Decent plot but includes stereotypes and cultural inaccuracies.
Revisado: 04-18-23
The plot is built on stereotypes, cultural and linguistic inaccuracies, and ungrounded accusations. Several examples: 1) Rough and rude Russian men are using "ushanka" (ушанка) with the temperature at 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside. 2) Second generation immigrants from Russia are reluctant to teach children to comprehend and to use the language, while the third generation immigrants are on the beginner level of language proficiency with the heritage language. 3) The author states that the American society is geared towards family and children, while other countries (Russia, in this case) have contrary values, which is a shame. Different values - yes, worse values - no. Family is one of the central values of the Slavic culture. 4) Holding on to things of sentimental value is presented as odd. 5) "This was in Mother Russia", "Nadiya's ties to Mother Russia" - Russian people do not say such phrases in day-to-day conversations and, definitely, do not refer to their motherland in such a way. 6) "Got pregnant by a dirty American", "…what a real Russian man is like" - these phrases are filled with stereotypical and prejudicial thinking. Russian people do not believe Americans to be dirty, nor do they presume to be better men and women. 7) Ballet dancing and gymnastics are among the most distinguished sports in Russia, but using a combination of both in one family, within one novel is stereotypical. Besides, immigration to the US is presented as an escape to better opportunities (biased opinion) while at the same time the main character is in an advantageous professional position in St. Petersburg, Russian.
Additionally, the narrator mispronounced numerous words and phrases in Russian. The protagonist cannot recognize the words because of her lack of language proficiency, and I cannot recognize them because of the incorrect pronunciation: 1) milnaya mojna (милая моя); 2) skozili (скользили); 3) vojny (военный); 4) shantazhéro valí (шантажировали); 5) vnychka (внучка). The most precise result was with the endearing word form "mamochka" (мамочка), although it also makes me cringe; and the words “polizejskiy” (полицейский), “kostyum” (костюм), “kasha” (каша), and "babushka" (бабушка).
Had the story not included referenced to the Russian people, language, and culture, it could have earned a better review. The danger of writing a culture-bound literary piece is in the lack of research and the use of bias and stereotypes. The narrator's incorrect pronunciation lowered the quality of this novels and added to the contextual mishaps.

There she meets Army veteran Tom Pereira, the caretaker of Gray House, whose heart seems as hard as the rocky Massachusetts coastline.

Realistic and encouraging

The story was well-written, and the characters were real and relatable. I enjoyed the biblical foundation and the words of encouragement in difficult life situations.

Historia
Raised amid the fame and mystique of the Big Top, Charlie Lionheart holds the audience in the palm of his hand. But while his act captivates thousands, it's away from the spotlight where his true heart lies. Here, he humbly cares for his pride of lions as if they were his brothers, a skill of bravery and strength that has prepared him for his most challenging feat yet - freeing an orphaned infant from the dark bondage of a sideshow. It is a trade so costly that it requires his life in exchange for hers, leaving him tarnished by the price of that choice.
