Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig's beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old's imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Gets a little bit draggy
Revisado: 10-31-22
Nearly abandoned this a couple of times. Just lost interest. Author managed to pick up the pace again and I stuck with him. Not a bad book, just not great. It has been a month or two since I finished, and frankly the narration did not stand out enough one way or the other for me to comment on it.

What a sleazy guy!
Revisado: 10-31-22
Scam artist deluxe. What a sleazy guy. Thoroughly despicable, presented in a completely believable way. Put together well. Read competently. It was fun to get a taste of his twisted life.

Astrophysicist and best-selling author Mario Livio draws on his own scientific expertise to provide captivating insights into how Galileo reached his bold new conclusions about the cosmos and the laws of nature. A freethinker who followed the evidence wherever it led him, Galileo was one of the most significant figures behind the scientific revolution. He believed that every educated person should know science as well as literature, and insisted on reaching the widest audience possible, publishing his books in Italian rather than Latin.

Revisado: 10-31-22
Have listened to several of these. All have been winners. By now I feel like I know the main characters, especially the one-legged detective. He is drawn in 3 dimensions, very real, very believable. Plot and character development are spot on. Narration is perfect. Recommended.

Revisado: 10-31-22
Have listened to several of these books, set in the American West featuring Native American people and their problems. Author seems to have researched the topic well. The story line is intriguing and the characters are well developed. Narration is superb, could not be any better. Recommended.

Historia
Once described by Mao Zedong as a "needle inside a ball of cotton", Deng was the pragmatic yet disciplined driving force behind China's radical transformation in the late 20th century. He confronted the damage wrought by the Cultural Revolution, dissolved Mao's cult of personality, and loosened the policies that had stunted China's growth. Obsessed with modernization, Deng opened trade relations with the West, which lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty. Yet he also answered to his authoritarian roots, most notably when he ordered the crackdown in 1989 at Tiananmen Square.

Brilliant biography
Revisado: 10-31-22
This important leader comes alive via this book. It is intelligently constructed, with adequate detail. Author puts the topic into perspective well. Gripping and easy to listen. Narration is competent, albeit with a few mispronunciations of Chinese names. Should not have been too difficult to get these proper names right.

Historia
Southern Afghanistan was slipping away. That was clear to then-Captain Rusty Bradley as he began his third tour of duty there in 2006. The Taliban and their allies were infiltrating everywhere, poised to reclaim Kandahar Province, their strategically vital onetime capital. To stop them, the NATO coalition launched Operation Medusa, the largest offensive in its history. The battlefield was the Panjwayi Valley, a densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers.
