Historia
Perhaps no declaration incites more theological and moral outrage than a human's claim to be divine. Those who make this claim in ancient Jewish and Christian mythology are typically represented as the most hubristic and dangerous tyrants. Their horrible punishments are predictable and still serve as morality tales in religious communities today. But not all self-deifiers are saddled with pride and fated to fall.

Another fantastic book by Dr. Litwa

I really enjoyed how well this book flowed. The chapters on gnosticism were particularly enjoyable. I hope that more of Dr. Litwa's books become available on Audible.

Did the early Christians believe their myths? Like most ancient—and modern—people, early Christians made efforts to present their myths in the most believable ways.

Historia
Using the writings of Cosmas and a wealth of other historical and archaeological evidence from the period, eminent historian G. W. Bowersock carefully reconstructs this fascinating but overlooked chapter in pre-Islamic Arabian history. The flashpoint of the war, Bowersock tells us, occurred when Yusuf, the Jewish king of Himyar, massacred hundreds of Christians living in Najran. The Christian ruler of Ethiopia, Kaleb, urged on by the Byzantine emperor Justin, led a force of 120,000 men across the Red Sea to defeat Yusuf.

Fantastic Short History

This was an excellent listen with a quality performance. I loved how detailed the author was in his research and the accompanying PDF was very useful. The narrator clearly took the time to learn bow to pronounce various place names. Highly recommended if you have a 4 hour drive or flight!

Very good for what it is
Revisado: 02-09-21
This book is primarily a military history of the Ottoman fronts during The Great War. I initially thought that this was going to be an overview of the breakup of the Ottoman Empire and the resulting partitions, but was not disappointed when that discussion failed to materialize until the conclusion. Overall, this book is very good for those who do not have an understanding of the broad strokes of the War on the Ottoman front. Rogan does seem to devote a large portion of the book to discussing British interests and designs on Turkish lands when he could have made the book a tad shorter, but this may be a language or documentation issue rather than a deliberate bias. Also, I recommend listening to this with a map or general knowledge of the geography of the region. The place names are well pronounced and can be found easily on a map.
