I found myself trying to find time to listen to this story - it kept me interested all the way through. The narrator was perfect, the characters made me feel for them almost immediately.

I haven't listened to any other books in the series, but don't feel like it harmed my enjoyment. It's a nice story, funny characters, zany plot lines and just a good time. Nothing too deep, nothing too involving, but fun

It kept my interest- I liked the delve into the past and all the characters. Performance kept me entertained. Went to listen to his first book because I enjoyed this one so much.

Not about hockey

I like my hockey romance to include hockey. This has the characters going to see a game, but it’s not about hockey. The lingo used for hockey structure wasn’t quite right, the thoughts that a NHL player would have about going to an ECHL game didn’t jive - it was a romantic story that I enjoyed enough to finish listening, but I had to take a many months break to get over the lack of hockey knowledge displayed. Again, the love story worked well, but not as a hockey love story.

I was disappointed in the third book in this series, The Hollow of fear. I really loved the first book, A study in scarlet women, and the second book, A conspiracy in Belgravia, really built on that, but the third book was far from the mark. I thought the story idea was great but then the elements of the first two books were pretty much dropped. Charlotte became very un-Charlotte like and un-Sherlock like. It is definitely moving into the romance genre and away from the mystery elements that I loved in the first two books. Mrs. Watson was a barely mention in this book. The twist was un-welcomed. I will probably still read the next one but I am not looking forward to it the way I did and if it is more of the same, I might be done with this series.

Where does The Devil in the White City rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

About the middle. It was good and the more distance I get from it the more I think about it.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It is very dense listening. There are a lot of characters to keep up with.

Which scene was your favorite?

I preferred the history of the fair to the story of the killer. I enjoyed very much guessing what the big draw for the fair was going to be.

If you could give The Devil in the White City a new subtitle, what would it be?

The amazing effort to bring the fair to life.

Any additional comments?

I did eventually get a hold of all the different players in the story. But it takes a while. It is amazing all that happened at the fair and all that happened as a result of the fair. I have become interested in reading more and seeing what the fair looked like.

What did you love best about All the Little Liars?

Aurora is a wonderful character. there are definitely eye rolling moments but I was very happy to be listening to her story again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of All the Little Liars?

Aurora and her father finally have it out. I like that she stood up for herself and threw him out of the house.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It is always the obnoxious jerks who did it.

Any additional comments?

I am really enjoying the Hallmark movies and look forward to see more of them. I hope Charlaine will continue to write more Aurora.

If you could sum up Yes Please in three words, what would they be?

Talent intelligence compassion

What did you like best about this story?

Amy is so funny and able to make anything interesting.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved that she invited others to read. I especially enjoyed Seth and Mike. I enjoyed the chemistry she had with her guests. I don't know if they were together when recording or not but it sure comes across that way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the respect and affection she has with her friends and colleagues. I loved the female empowerment of her relationships. Especially talking about the pudding and the shenanigans they devised. I loved how she focused on each person at Parks and Rec and described what she loved about them.

Any additional comments?

I bought a couple of books because of her name checking like Nick Offerman and Heartburn. I was least interested in her motherhood stories and probably could have heard a lot more about Parks and Rec. I hated the apology chapter that was more than a bit gratuitous but I guess she felt the need to go there. I was surprised by her reaction to the guy giving her a script but enjoy that she is not the Pollyanna that some might think. She has a lot of great insights and is best when talking about all that she has accomplished with her improv groups and positive relationships with other entertainers. I prefer the empowerment and supportive over the drama and competitiveness. It's nice to see good people succeed.

What did you love best about Imperfect Justice?

Jeff's rational and intelligent approach to the whole story. Insights to behind the scenes during the case and the evidence that was not presented.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how comprehensive it was. There was not much that was left out.

What does Jeff Ashton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked hearing his story even if he does come across a bit pompous at times.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

was the jury paying attention

Any additional comments?

Since a good deal of this story was revealed to me through Nancy Grace's obsessive coverage, jail house videos and 911 recordings, it was good to get a prosecutor's lay of events and people involved. I was impressed by Jeff's competence and intelligence. He stays clear of emotion which might diminish what the poor little girl suffered but helps to be more measured when exploring the sociopathic mother and her crooked lawyer. It is a more clinical and reserved examination of all the facts in the case. What continues to elude me and is not really explored by Jeff is the case of the grandmother. She continues to baffle me and maybe someone with more of a psychological background will need to cover that. Jeff basically says she chose her daughter over her granddaughter. I cannot fathom that degree of denial. The biggest mystery to me is the jury. After O.J. and now this case the jury system is deeply flawed and in need of a major overhaul. Maybe if it is as Jeff says the system works overall, special circumstances need to apply when such high profile cases are tried. The jury has so many different motives coming into play from those that just don't want to be there to those looking to benefit in some way. I guess that is also for another book.

What made the experience of listening to Paddle Your Own Canoe the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed Nick's insights (even when I didn't agree) and his story is compelling. I especially loved his adoration and respect for his wife. He has a no nonsense and direct approach to living right. Hard work. Respect. A sense of fairness that I greatly appreciated.

What other book might you compare Paddle Your Own Canoe to and why?

I had just read Amy Poeller's Yes Please, but they are really vastly different books. He seems to be emulating Twain with the folksy truism, but with added explicit bits about sex and drugs.

Which character – as performed by Nick Offerman – was your favorite?

Nick Offerman

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he talked about meeting his future wife and many other times like their wedding when his love and respect for her could make cry with empathy.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. I got it because it was name checked by Amy Poeller in her book Yes Please. I do love Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. I was very surprised. It was not the typical celebrity memoir. He has a great deal of depth and something to say. I greatly enjoyed the insight into his relationship with his wife though I didn't need quite so many details about their sex life. I mostly responded to his great affection and respect for her. There are a lot of little moments that got me like introducing Chris Pratt to Highlander and more so his genuine respect and love for his colleagues that comes across. I loved the bit in the kitchen when he was rehearsing for his interview for Parks and Rec and his wife say something like suck it up fat boy with the aside that they do not pull their punches in the kitchen. I would have liked a lot more about Parks and Rec, but I guess that could come later.
