THE BEST
Revisado: 11-11-23
I loved entrusting about this story AND the performance! The only thing is the Titanic ending. I wish the periodontist would’ve kept the vile. Oh, well. I’m going to check out if the author has more books.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The voice actress was wonderful! Meanwhile, the story was inspiring. I could see a lot of my childhood and long for the same peaceful results the author finally achieved.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Best Story This Year!
Revisado: 11-17-22
I’m a teacher and an author. I read an incredible number of books every year. This was, by far, the best book I’ve read this year. Moreover, it was the best audiobook. I can’t wait until the movie is made!

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I enjoy all of Deborah Blake's books. I hope the next one comes out on audible soon. Listening to her books are preferable to music in the car.

Historia
In her small early-19th-century Welsh town, there is no one quite like Morgana. She is small and quick and pretty enough to attract a suitor, but there are things that set her apart from other girls. Though her mind is sharp she has not spoken since she was a young girl. Her silence is a mystery, as well as her magic - the household objects that seem to move at her command, the bad luck that visits those who do her ill. Concerned for her safety, her mother is anxious to see Morgana married....

Good Performance. SLOOOW Story
Revisado: 07-19-17
This book took WAY longer than it should have. I had to fight from falling asleep several times. Mind you, the prose itself is lovely. However, the descriptions just go on and on. Really, it was very tiresome.

Historia
On a summer night in 2009, three lives intersected in one American neighborhood. Two people newly in love - Teresa Butz and Jennifer Hopper, who spent many years trying to find themselves and who eventually found each other - and a young man on a dangerous psychological descent: Isaiah Kalebu, age 23, the son of a distant, authoritarian father and a mother with a family history of mental illness. All three paths forever altered by a violent crime, all three stories a wake-up call to the system that failed to see the signs.

Sad, but Common...
Revisado: 01-05-17
The narration of this book was good. However, I have read true crime novels with much more punch than this book offered. That's not to say the writing isn't good. It's grammatically correct and there are moments of poetic prose. Also, I thought the author did a good job of grounding the readers in scene by describing various aspects of the city in the beginning of chapters. However, the manner in which this story was told made out feel common. That's not to say that what the victims experienced should be trivialized. It is not unheard of, though. This story hardly sheds new light on a subject we are all too familiar with - mentally ill individuals are not getting the help they need, committing crimes that are poorly judged so they can be pushed through the system.

Historia
Older than she looks and powerful beyond measure, Barbara Yager no longer has much in common with the mortal life she left behind long ago. Posing as an herbalist and a researcher, she travels the country with her faithful (mostly) dragon-turned-dog in an enchanted Airstream, fulfilling her duties as a Baba Yaga and avoiding any possibility of human attachment.

Absolutely FABULOUS!
Revisado: 11-03-16
I was very hesitant to purchase this audio book when I listened to the sample. It seemed pretty boring and the woman's voice was quite annoying. However, her voice quickly grew on me - especially when I heard her the accents she used. It really brought the story to life. As for the story itself... Absolutely FABULOUS! I've enjoyed reading a few of Deborah Blake's books and thought I'd try some fiction for my own inspiration. I was not disappointed in the least! The characters are all well-rounded, the details of both worlds are well written, and the plot is very tight. I honestly look forward to the second book in this series.
