I realize I'm in the minority, but I found this book awful. Main character was intolerable, SO judgmental. (minor spoilers)... I understand that her sister did a bad thing, but OMG I felt like screaming when she kept saying over and over that it ruined her life. AlAnon wasn't even mentioned until over 7 hours in and she was too selfish to go. And what family would expect their son to be the best man in the wedding of his ex-wife to his brother six months after their cheating caused the divorce? I listened to a lot of the audiobook at 1.2 - 1.5 speed just to get it over. The narrator was okay, some over annunciation.

I hadn't enjoyed the last several BDB books. I really wanted to know Lassiter's story,so gave it a try. I'm not sure what happened to the irreverent, snarky angel of prior books. This Lassiter was angsty, overly dramatic, and no fun at all. Didn't feel like there was much character development. After the first several hours, I listened at 1.5 speed just to get it over with. Probably my last BDB book.

Felt like limited character development

I'm a huge Molly Harper fan but this was a miss for me. I felt like the characters had little development. Felt rushed and flat. I hope the next in the series is better. I also hope narrators sync pronunciation of names as they didn't in this one.

Really bad book

Still not the old Kristen Higgins

but better than some of her other more recent books. I found the second half better than the first half. Xe Sands did a solid job other than her version of Ophelia. I found CJ Bloom pretty awful with odd choices of inflection and emphasis. On the other hand, her Ophelia was spot on.

Not the Sean Duffy series, Unfortunately

Like most of the other negative reviews, I love Adrian McKinty's Sean Duffy series. I listened to them one after another and was sad when they ended. This book is nothing like the Sean Duffy series. I struggled to finish it, finally listening at 2x speed just to get through it. I was in the vast minority of those who didn't like Gone Girl, so if you liked that book, you might enjoy this one. I feel like Mr. McKinty jumped on the Gone Girl bandwagon and found commercial success at the expense of his excellent storytelling. I found the characters unlikable and the plot thin and preposterous. Thankfully I have the Michael Forsythe series yet to listen to, so I can put this out of my mind.

I rarely return a book or audiobook, but did this one.. I think I got through about 25% and could take no more. It was, in my opinion, just plain stupid. Characters were ridiculous and overdone. Situation required complete suspension of reality. Many much better options for your credit and your time.
