Historia
Fischer has everything he needs in life: blossoming friendships, a menagerie of cute animal companions, a waterfront property with easy access to fishing, and enough coffee to take out a small elephant or a really big dog. Unfortunately, Fischer can’t catch a break. Cosmic forces? Still throwing curveballs. The bigwigs in the capital? Starting to sniff around his business. Cults? Still culting. Plus, awakened beings are washing up on his shores like flotsam after a storm. And worst of all? His coffee guy ghosted him!

a good story with bad pacing, packed with filler.
Revisado: 02-12-25
it's a 5 star book filled with 2 star filler. its 12 hours of food porn mixed with constantly petting fluffy animal friends 769 times as if it didn't stop being interesting the first 10 times. This boring mass of filter suffocates the 6-7 hours of actual compelling and interesting story. I love slice of life stuff but there's only so many times you can listen to the MC going Mmmmmmmmmm food, and petting their pets. As a result, the pacing is awful. The ending was interesting and eventful, but I'm not willing to suffer through another 10-15 hours of poorly paced bloat to get to the meat of a good story. This book would likely be excellent if 50% of the useless fat was trimmed. I will be letting this series go for now.
Naration is excellent at least...

Historia
With the end of the harvest festival, farmer Matt Miller is back to square one. The forest has been burnt to ash and his farm now lies in ruin, but at least he has plenty of friends to help him rebuild. As winter descends and farming is no longer an option, Matt’s attention shifts to the south of his property where a mysterious cave system descends deep underground.

Revisado: 01-28-25
I enjoyed the first book but this one already felt like filler which is very concerning as its only the second book. I really felt that few of the interesting parts of the story progressed and a lot of time was spent on character interactions that had no real value. this was compounded by the fact that the book is quite short. I really didn't enjoy where they took this book. I'm not going to share details but the direct conflict in this book was disappointing and it came far too soon. this conflict should have been pushed to book 4+ after the existing basics had a chance to get explored. he's supposed to be a farmer and his farm didn't progress at all... just too much empty air and not enough meat...

Historia
Emerging from the deep wilds, Sen is now aware of the dangers of his body cultivation method. A method he doesn’t know how to progress. With time running out until his body turns against him, Sen travels to one of the only places he might find the manual that could save him. A place he never wanted to go. The capital. Of course, the heart of the kingdom holds dangers of its own. Sen is inexorably drawn into the convoluted web of power that controls the vast city. He must navigate court politics, ambitious sects, and the unwanted attention of a criminal cultivator organization.

not bad but more of the same.
Revisado: 12-14-24
overall fairly entertaining. pacing for the last half was a bit slow. if you enjoyed the first 3 books, you'll probably enjoy this one too. that being said, I found it to be the weakest so far. the first half was good but the last half was kind of tedious.

Sorry... Really? Thrust? Anyway, Danny Kendrick was a down-on-his luck performer who always struggled to find his place. He certainly never wanted to be a hero. He just hoped to earn a living doing what he loved. That all changes when he pisses off the wrong guy and gets sucked into a fantasy realm straight out of a Renaissance Fair. Getting used to a new world is tough. It's even tougher when you're surrounded by axe-wielding barbarians, super hot elf assassins, strange magic, and a jaded System that doesn't appear interested in being charged with yet another companion.

more of a comedy than anything else.
Revisado: 11-27-24
good production value. rpg elements are light and unintrrusive. They are also mostly irrelevant and uninspired. it's a mediocre fantasy tale wrapped around simplistic lit RPG elements and an overpowered borrowed power trope. The comedy is good though. depends what you are looking for.

good first half. boring bland action second half. compelling ending.
Revisado: 08-30-24
60% of the book was good but there was a ton of action filler and a lot of pacing issues. hours of action always bores me. action doesn't work in books like it does in movies. action sequences need to be short and memorable. This book is full of long meandering action sequences that don't meaningfully push the plot. Even if they did they would still need trimming. it's not as bad as the tournament book but it's close.

mostly boring filler.
Revisado: 05-31-24
I nearly stopped reading after the previous book was mostly mindless filler. This book had even less relevance as it was separated from the main world/story. The MC has morphed completely into a self absorbed A**hole edge lord. The whole "might makes right" murder hobo mentality gets old fast. the first book or two sat pretty well with me but I just don't like the OP edge lord route the author took. I would have to be really bored to continue the series down the road.

good start! slow, lifeless middle and end.
Revisado: 05-20-24
the first hour or so definitely hooked me and got me engaged. Sadly, as soon as the plot was established, the book devolved into mindless boring action scenes and lifeless characters. I struggled through 5 hours of boring grind just because I couldn't return the book. sadly at about 2 hours in, I fell asleep and the rest of the book played. I would have had to jump through hoops to return it. with such a good start I kept hoping the book would find its feet. sadly it never did. not a horrible book, but certainly boring and uninspired.

Historia
Sen never dreamed of ascension. Such were the aspirations of the rich young nobles, not orphans like him, scraping together a meager living on the streets of Orchard’s Reach. However, when destiny takes an unexpected turn, Sen finds himself thrust into the role of a cultivator’s disciple. Chosen over the nobles who once looked down on him, he is adopted into a makeshift family of three ancient cultivators, each with a lifetime of knowledge and insights. These old monsters will teach Sen everything they can, from the art of the jian and spear to the mysteries of arcane alchemy.

overall good, narrator had an annoying Kirk-like cadence.
Revisado: 05-07-24
in general I'm happy with my purchase. The story was good but nothing special. The world kind of falls at the feet of the MC and everything is quite literally handed to him. Then for the last 3 hours of the book he acts completely out of character. I was largely entertained the entire time despite some shallow 2 dimensional character writing. Good, but far from great. I will most likely buy the next book.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

constant system voice interruptions nearly destroy otherwise entertaining story.
Revisado: 01-10-24
if you can learn to tune out the bad naration choices that many reviews have complained about, it's an enjoyable listen. I struggled for a long time with it and almost returned the book twice. whoever's idea it was to have spells, abilities, and key words always pronounced in the loud "system" voice, needs to be fired, from a cannon.

competently written but clearly not a complete story arc. I'm really getting sick of series that split 1 book into 2 for the purpose of cash grabbing.
