Historia
In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel...an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing. Soon she is faced with a new crime...the ultimate crime...murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried....

Was the Editor on Vacation?
Revisado: 04-06-25
The narration here is excellent. Ms.Fix gives each of the characters a distinctive voice, and is able to remain consistent through the rather long story.
However, this is sadly not one of Christie’s best works. The story, characters, and plot twists are solid, but the writing is painfully repetitive. She over- explains and re-explains various plot points in a way that becomes incredibly irritating. An editor could have aired this down by about a quarter and made something really great.

Wonderful Narration
Revisado: 02-17-25
A very Wilkie Collin’s story. Loads of coincidences, high emotion, drama, and secrets by the teapot full. The narrator was wonderful. He was able to create distinctive, realistic voices for each character and somehow kept them all consistent over this very, very long story.

Couldn’t put it down…so to speak
Revisado: 06-08-23
I usually listen to audio books and podcasts while I’m occupied with something else - laundry, dinner prep, gardening, etc. I got so wrapped up in this book that I found myself simply sitting still and staring off into the distance while I listened. It is somewhat predictable, but the characters are so well drawn and the writing so beautifully done, that it didn’t matter that I could pretty much guess the ending. It doesn’t hurt that the narration is spot-on.

Along with the property, they have inherited some worthless bric-a-brac, including a collection of antique books....

Where was the editor?
Revisado: 05-18-23
I’ve read and listened to many Agatha Christie books, and these were probably my least favorites. By the Pricking of My Thumbs wasn’t bad, but Postern of Fate? Ugh! Was she just tired? Obligated to put out another book by a contract with a publisher? Just why did she write this?

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-23-22
Well, no. This was not good. It was derivative and not very engaging. The characters were so poorly drawn, that I just didn’t care what happened to them. The writing was poor, and a bit juvenile; it completely lacked any kind of elegance or craftsmanship. A really good editor might have made a difference, but unfortunately it reads like a professional never touched it. Even the narration was poor. I cringed every time the female narrator started speaking in a man’s voice. Not good at all.

Soon nobody is sure of anyone - as secrets stop being shameful and start becoming deadly.

Surprised how much I liked it
Revisado: 08-30-22
I really quite liked this book. I’m not a huge fan of Ms. Marple, but she only shows up briefly at the end of the story to solve and explain the crimes that have occurred. The narration was quite good, the voices different enough to easily distinguish, but not over-the-top.

I love this narrator. His Young Bingo voice is something else, what? Sort of wet and lisping and perfect for the character. A real topper!

Historia
My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

Great narration

The narrator here is very good. The characters are distinct, but not over-the-top. I prefer collections of just Jeeves stories, and there are a few others here, so I knocked of a star for content.
