Historia
This book traces the entire arc of Ringo's remarkable life and career, from his sickly childhood to his life as the world's most famous drummer to his triumphs, addictions, and emotional battles following the breakup of the Beatles. Born in 1940 as Richard Starkey in the Dingle, one of Liverpool's most gritty, rough-and-tumble neighborhoods, he rose from a hardscrabble childhood marked by serious illnesses, long hospital stays, and little schooling to emerge, against all odds, as a renowned drummer.

Not A Bad Story, But Fact-Checking Needed
Revisado: 08-23-24
This has been my third book on the individual members of The Beatles. My next book will be one about George. As I wrote in another review, the reader does a terrible job attempting to imitate a female voice when directly quoting various women. While my knowledge of Ringo's life is, or has been limited, the author needs better editing/fact-checking. For example, when he credits Paul McCartney for having written 'Across The Universe. REALL? That is one that immediately stood out to me so who knows how much else the author got wrong. My problem is that I don't know who to trust in the retelling of the lives of The Beatles. I'm hoping I do better picking an author for George Harrison.

In John, Cynthia recalls those times with the loving honesty of an insider, offering new and fascinating insights into the life of John Lennon and the early days of the Beatles. And with the perspective only years can provide, she also tells the compelling story of her marriage to a man who was to become a music legend, a cultural hero, and a defining figure of the 20th century.

Crazy Story
Revisado: 08-19-24
Up until recently, I had never read a book about the Beatles. I recently read a Philip Norman book about Paul McCartney. After that, I thought that reading something from a person who was in the midst of a Beatles relationship might be more objective so decided to read 'John' because Cynthia was married to John. Early on in this book I discovered that Lennon was verbally abusive toward Cynthia, always apologizing and repeating the cycle. At one point John hit Cynthia and, still, she decided to stick with John. Then, towards the end of the books she reveals that if she had known what would happen as Lennon's wife she would NOT have stuck with John. IMO, I don't believe thar. Cynthia Lennon proves throughout her insecurities and hopes that things will change. Things seldom change with abusive and/or drug addicted partners. Her 'love' for Lennon continues even after he admits cheating on her and he apologizes. She relents, and then Yoko is on the scene, AND in her house where she is so insecure she cannot even have Yoko removed. Lennon's on again, off again relationship with Julian is disgusting, especially having begun a relationship with the narcissistic Yoko. That Lennon cannot go anywhere without 'mother' speaks Yoko's ability to control those who get sucked up in her world. There are many disgusting things that happen throughout the telling of this story. Is everything 100% accurate? I don't know, but it confirms in my mind how troubled John Lennon's life was. Yes, McCartney & Lennon had an unprecedented amount of hits, but I won't, and never have worshipped Lennon's life like many have.

Interesting Story
Revisado: 08-17-24
I enjoyed listening to the story of McCartney's life. However, I did not enjoy listening to the reader as he constantly mispronounced words. The other thing I did not like was his attempt to change his voice while quoting someone. It was especially bad when he attempted to quote a female. Had he just kept the same tone in his voice I would have enjoyed the story better.

Historia
Named one of the top books of 2009 by the Times Literary Supplement (London), this controversial and compelling audiobook from Dr. Stephen C. Meyer presents a convincing new case for intelligent design (ID) based on revolutionary discoveries in science and DNA. Along the way Meyer argues that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution as expounded in The Origin of Species did not, in fact, refute ID.

Wow!

This is a mind blowing book. I'm not a scientist, but I was able to follow the complexity of Meyer's thought process.

Unbelievable
Revisado: 03-14-24
Unbelievable, yet so true. This story is so complex I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it.
Webb, I believe has written a fantastic tome which everyone should read, BUT, how much time do we have left?

Incredible Story
Revisado: 01-05-24
First, there are volume fluctuations in this reading I found annoying.
Second, this is an incredible story that is so complex it made my head spin. Beginning in the 1920s, Webb describes how bankers, celebrities, the mob, the CIA, world leaders, and anyone with large supplies of money set the stage for Epstein to become the pedophile he was.
