Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Great use of multiple sources and the latest technology.
Revisado: 12-16-19
Gladwell uses the participants actual voices whenever possible making what is sometimes dry in other books really come alive, puts you right there at the scene. He breaks down the book into a few well-researched scientific theories and applies them to real-life, mostly wrenching experiences that you won’t soon forget. A book that is worth everyone’s time to hear and/ or to read - maybe both!

Historia
Joseph W. Naus was living the American dream. He'd survived a brutal childhood, graduated from Pepperdine Law School, and become a successful attorney. Then one night his American dream life became a nightmare when his sex and alcohol addictions collided and exploded. "On Tuesday I was a respected civil trial lawyer making six-figures. On Wednesday I woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed, charged with attempted murder...and then it got worse."

Important reading for those who think they understand addiction
Revisado: 03-29-17
Naus writes as he speaks. Nothing held back and nothing added which makes for a very believable script. And yet the story line is quite surprising, even scary. What do you think prison is like? Do you think that one too many drinks could land you there?

Imaginative interconnection of Whitehead's research and fiction. The story story is very readable and it has a big Impact on your heart and soul. Revisado: 07-05-16
This is an important book for those who've given over their lives to someone with an addiction. You deserve the gift of your own life and Beattie' s guidance can help you regain it.
Had some trouble with the narrator's voice. Clear diction, but a little harsh.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. Not worth the time.
Was Not a Match worth the listening time?
The narration grated on my ears. He sounded like a 14-year-old geek. I guess it made it more believable that he "needed" those 100 on-line dates.

The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

A learning experience
Revisado: 03-02-14
Historical fiction that was written with intent to stay true to the truth of the times - the grit, the horrors, and certainly the blind hypocracy that we still haven't learned our way out of! Important book!
