What I learned from this book has lasting effects
Revisado: 09-19-23
I bought this book based on a review from an artist. The out-of-control disorganized artist is a common trope, and I admit I bought into it. I'm so grateful to the artist-reviewer because without that review I doubt that I would have listened to a book about the culinary arts. Ever since I listened to this book (which is now several months ago) I still use what I learned everyday. I'm a changed person....and all from learning about the importance of taking great care to set out whatever you need to do the job ahead of time. Highly recommend, especially if, like me, you're a "messy" type.

Historia
Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius was the final famous Stoic philosopher of the ancient world. The Meditations, his personal journal, survives to this day as one of the most loved self-help and spiritual classics of all time. In How to Think Like a Roman Emperor, psychotherapist Donald Robertson weaves stories of Marcus’s life from the Roman histories together with explanations of Stoicism—its philosophy and its psychology—to enlighten today’s listeners. He discusses Stoic techniques for coping with everyday problems, from irrational fears and bad habits to anger, pain, and illness.

It could not possibly be better
Revisado: 06-23-19
Thanks to the reviewers who reviewed this book...now I'll add my voice to the chorus. I absolutely loved this book and the guided meditation at the end was remarkable. Not to overstate it, but I feel changed in the most positive way. I feel much more equipped to handle everything! Oddly enough, years ago, I read nearly everything Albert Ellis wrote (Ellis= one of the authors influences) but this book helps me far more. (Perhaps because it delves more deeply into where Ellis' ideas originated). I'm having trouble coming up with an adequate superlative to add...perhaps it is ...."spellbinding"...Can't recommend enough.

Historia
One of the great fears many of us face is that despite all our effort and striving, we will discover at the end that we have wasted our life. In A Guide to the Good Life, William B. Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

Life Changing
Revisado: 06-15-19
In the past, a very long time ago, I enjoyed reading about the Philosophers..I just needed someone like this author to explain how it could be applied to current life! He did an awesome job of that with logic and humor. I am grateful! The narration was also purely wonderful. (I'd love to see this book required reading in high school, I so wish I could go back in time to read it then)!

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 06-04-19
I was somewhat prepared to not enjoy this. A friend was reading the hard bound version and recommended it. I am not that much of an Oprah fan, but this book is definitely uplifting. I was cynical, but I found myself engaged and feeling (genuinely) optimistic.

Stellar book on organizing, decluttering & BEYOND
Revisado: 01-01-19
I have been a borderline atheist all my life, but I kept an open mind about this book and now 1/2 of my formerly messed up and neglected house is decluttered and in order. I can't wait to get to declutter the rest of it! (and to clean my car)! Now, understand, I have read a lot of other declutter books and my "problem" spans decades, but this book has indeed changed me. I can't say enough about it. Is there salvation in cleaning, in becoming excellent? I'm thinking YES. Recommended: listen to the book WHILE you declutter.
