Historia
On the edge of the galaxy, a diplomatic mission to an alien planet takes a turn when the Legionnaires, an elite special fighting force, find themselves ambushed and stranded behind enemy lines. They struggle to survive under siege, waiting on a rescue that might never come. In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounty hunter lies in wait.

Book 1 amazing, book 2 not so much…
Revisado: 12-14-24
Book 1, Legionnaire, was excellent; it’s the gritty, war-weary, soldier-perspective book I’ve wanted from Star Wars forever. Book 2 was far more derivative, predictable, & full of stereotypes; tough to finish…
Amazing work by RC Bray, as usual!

Historia
The Jedi are reeling from Qui-Gon Jinn’s sudden death at the hands of a Sith. Jedi Master Mace Windu’s feelings about Qui-Gon have always been complicated, and have not been made any simpler in death. While they often disagreed, Mace valued Qui-Gon’s unique perspective, and their shared dedication to the Force made them allies. Without Qui-Gon and his unorthodox views, Mace feels out of balance. While considering his fallen friend’s legacy, Mace is surprised to receive a final message from Qui-Gon.

Decent but not the best Star Wars tale out there
Revisado: 11-27-24
Unusual Star Wars tale, less compelling than many but still decent. Great performance values, as usual from Star Wars productions.

Decent zombie story, but the format makes it difficult to get invested & feel any real fear for the protagonist.

Engrossing ride from start to finish!
Revisado: 05-25-24
What a great read, the story grabbed my attention early & never let go. Sharp dialogue, interestingly diverse characters, & deep concepts cleverly woven into an engaging tale. The narrator’s slightly deadpan detective noir delivery caught me off guard initially, but quickly became clear was an excellent choice to suit the story, I hope to hear him more in the future.

Great story, storytelling needs a little work
Revisado: 03-06-24
I liked this series enough that I had to finish it, & I’ll probably read more of his books. I’m hoping to see him grow as a writer. There’s far, far too many “saved at the last second” scenarios, & it gets worse as the series progresses. I feel like he set up great scenes where major characters would/should die, but kept backing out & felt the need to save them (often in very questionable ways). Terrible enemies that are truly frightening seem to become very underpowered by the end. Few other inconsistencies, but despite all that, still a compelling story.

Great story & performance hindered by poor soundtrack
Revisado: 10-08-22
Great story in Joe Abercrombie’s world, must-read if you love the series, but consider a different edition. The music was constantly over-dramatic, often out of place & turning the writer’s dry humour into melancholy moments.

Average zombie yarn
Revisado: 09-17-19
I struggled with this but I suspect that is due to how many I’ve read; I think if this is your first you may have a different experience. It’s an ok story but doesn’t bring anything new to the genre; also plagued with many, many questionable choices by the protagonists.

Historia
Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content. From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause.

Excellent production of a poor Star Wars entry
Revisado: 05-17-18
The directions these new Star Wars stories have taken show a genuine lack of understanding in what it means to be Jedi & how the force works. That aside I feel this was a story in desperate need of a strong editor; so many of the weaker elements of the story were also mostly superfluous.
Despite this the excellent performance still made for an entertaining experience at times.

Wonderful background story
Revisado: 05-16-17
What made the experience of listening to Thrawn (Star Wars) the most enjoyable?
A thoroughly enjoyable and deep experience, giving some deep insight into the background of one of Star Wars' most deep and complicated characters.
Have you listened to any of Marc Thompson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Marc Thompson is very gifted, however I found his characterizations of the female characters a little off-putting; they are all either whiny and vapid, or cynical and grating. I regularly felt that the delivery for many of the dialogues for the female characters felt at odds with the development of their characters. A minor flaw in what was otherwise a fantastic performance.

Flawed but not without appeal
Revisado: 02-08-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This is a book in desperate need of editing; there's a really interesting story in there somewhere, but the uneven pacing and superfluous diversions really impacted the overall effect. This is also definitely a story aimed at the young-adult market. I do look forward to future books by this author, hopefully we'll see a lot of improvement with experience.
