Historia
Happy, Joyous, and Free is the intensely personal, deeply intimate story of Juris S' journey from spiritual death to abundant life. Dr. S takes the listener into his mind and heart to demonstrate how the belief systems that were constructed early in his childhood drove his actions and behaviors as an adult. Being strongly scientifically minded with minimal spiritual direction, he began as a militant atheist who chased the delusion of the "American dream".

Authentic Struggle and True Victory
Revisado: 08-03-24
Juris’s book is an authentic, heart, wrenching story of the struggle of someone who from the world’s standards had everything”. Ultimately, he found that what the world defined as successful was not fulfilling. To deal with his despair, he numbed himself with alcohol. Even those who do not struggle with alcohol abuse, can relate to this, as all of us use something to numb our pain, whether it be over eating; pornography; drugs; the Internet; shopping; gambling; social media. People say that unless the person struggling hits “rock-bottom“ that they will not see help. Juris’s story shows that loved ones can elevate that bottom. He was able to get help before he had completely destroyed his life. He found hope through AA and the big book. He worked the program as it should be worked and now is happy, joyous, and free as his book states. I know this to be true because I met him recently while on vacation. He defines his higher power as Jesus Christ and is not hesitant at all to share who saved him.

Historia
In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history. In the midst of this crisis, the decision to launch a small wooden dory named “The Emerald Mile” at the head of the Grand Canyon, just fifteen miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam, seemed not just odd, but downright suicidal.

Amazing and compelling tale
Revisado: 06-21-24
After just white water rafting the Grand Canyon I sought out this book. I wish I would’ve read it before I went on the trip, but maybe not. The way the author weaves history more remote and then more present, as well as the history of the dam and the Colorado river is compelling. I had a hard time turning off my phone to accomplish other things while I was listening to this book. Also, I’m glad the author read it himself. Many times when an author reads their own book, they are really not that good of a reader, but he has an amazing voice, calm, soothing with good cadence. You could actually hear the love he had for the canyon and the players in his voice.
Thin places- rare locales where the distance between heaven and earth collapses.
