And the master of the house is great-grandmother Oldknow, whose storytelling mizes present and past with the oldest magic in the world.

….mostly; I read the whole series as a child, but didn't realize it was based on a real house until decades later. Boston clearly did love this house very much, enough that the house seems to be a character in its own right.
