When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (German for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. Imprisoned for more than two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism - but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

Gripping and powerful story. It was so incredible I couldn't believe the characters' persistent struggle for life was real. This novel exposes the most beautiful and most ugly parts of humanity.

Since then, politicians have repeatedly committed egregious transgressions against scientific knowledge prefaced by this seemingly innocuous phrase. Interesting and Timely Book

The author did a good job of standing up for science without being partisan as well as equipping the reader with useful tools to analyze political rhetoric against scientific true. I enjoyed the book and thought the voice performance was great.
