Historia
Millions of people climb the grand marble staircase to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art every year. But only a select few have unrestricted access to every nook and cranny. They’re the guards who roam unobtrusively in dark blue suits, keeping a watchful eye on the two million square foot treasure house. Caught up in his glamourous fledgling career at The New Yorker, Patrick Bringley never thought that he’d be one of them.

His use of language is unsurpassed, his ability to describe the work of the museum is hard to fathom.

What is art? Many of us think of the arts as entertainment—a luxury of some kind. In Your Brain on Art, authors Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross show how activities from painting and dancing to expressive writing, architecture, and more are essential to our lives.

Historia
Mary Lennox starts her life as an unhappy victim of circumstance. After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. Although unsure about her surroundings and its occupants, through the gentle guidance of the maid she gradually becomes interested in the story of Mrs Craven, who apparently used to spend her time in a garden at the house, the key to which has vanished.

A sick boy and a sick girl and how they healed each other and his widowed father. Dickens and His mother make the story so believable.
It is not a fairy tale, but a true story about real work and warmest play.

Bruno, chief of police in the French town of St. Denis, is already busy with a case when the body of an undercover French Muslim cop is found in the woods, a man who had called Bruno for help only hours earlier. But Bruno's sometime boss and rival, the Brigadier, doesn't see this investigation as a priority - there are bigger issues at stake. Bruno has other ideas.

The BEST of Bruno!
Revisado: 10-18-20
With Robert Ian MacKenzie’s fabulous interpretation of the myriad voices that Martin Walker has instilled in each of the individual stories in the “Bruno” series, both new and old, familiar characters come to life as though they are on screen. The action scenes, which I wouldn’t WANT to view on the screen, are intense and very believable.
Bruno is a typical hero of the intense military type battles the stories are all laced with international intrigue, but we all read Bruno because of the small town French attitude of this wise and lonely officer. As one of the best cooks in Sant Denise the recipes are authentic and unique. I hope Walker keeps on with Bruno, but without MacKenzie’s fabulous French it wouldn’t be the same.

Historia
When a woman's body is found at the foot of a cliff near St. Denis, Bruno suspects a connection to the great ruin that stands on the cliff above: the Chateau de Commarque, a long-ago Knights Templar stronghold that, along with the labyrinth of prehistoric caves beneath it, continues to draw the interest of scholars. With the help of Amelie, a young newcomer to the Dordogne, Bruno learns that the dead woman was an archaeologist searching for a religious artifact of incredible importance.

The Best of Bruno so far!
Revisado: 10-03-20
The story of the attack by Islamic terrorists fits perfectly into today’s live news story of President Macron’s vow to do something about the violence that has steadily increased in France in recent days.
The characters that Walker adds to Bruno’ s coterie continues to intrigue and the education of Bruno by another female assistant moved us further and further into the 21st century.
And I was thrilled to see Isabel back in the picture.

Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

Saving Democracy, one tycoon at a time!
Revisado: 10-15-19
Wow! This gal knows about research !
I greatly appreciate the amount of time dedicated to every tiny detail about the oil and gas industry. And the back story is all about the corruption that most endangers our way of life. Rachel is humorous when ever she can be, while sticking to a scary
story. Whether you are a conservative or a liberal, this book is not about politics. It is about the corrupt policies of the Russians
and others that are major contributors to the energy battles being waged in several places around the world and in the USA. The history
of these struggles and the stories of what the corruptors spent there money on is intriguing
When she gets to 2016 she tells how the Russians were able to buy our election to get what they needed If you are at all interested in big money, big government , and the truth ,
you will love this bookI if you love our form of democracy, then be aware of the truth !

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

This is the first of Ms Owen ‘ s novels I have read. It is stunning, surprising, and her words bare both songs of nature and the heart break of aloneness. Sanity and insanity vie for equal footing in this mesmerizing narrative. I listened straight through in two days. Amazing!

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

An important book for every person
Revisado: 03-10-17
This book should be required reading for every American family, both for those whose members have been torn apart by poverty and inadequate parenting, and the financially successful families who have everything, especially, love and education. The time of Trump is the rise of the power of this rust belt and southern demographic. These people need help, but unlike the author I think government programs CAN do something to help these people help themselves. Both is necessary, and for liberal elites , they can learn a lot from these people's experiences.
Vance drags us through the horrors of his up bringing, or lack there of,
with empathy and compassion for his family. Congratulations for changing his personal circumstances or certainly in order.
