I listened to this for a book club. It was a hard listen, knowing how things were like this ot-so-long ago and knowing that people do still think this way. This book was aggravating, riveting, interesting, sickening and devastating. By the last few chapters I was lying in the dark (it's 3am where I am) listening just hoping things would turn out. It started out a bit slow-- and I was very distracted that the Jewish man's name is pronounced the same as mine and that he wasn't more of a help-- but the narrator was so good at voicing the different characters, she really kept me in the narrative and I could picture each character distinctly in my mind. I have recently lost a friend and I found myself shedding tears in several places. Robert was a bit too introspective in a few places for me-- I noticed myself going "OKAY, WE GET IT, JUST GO!" but I also have quite a lengthy inner monologue and it doesn't take 20 hours to narrate or out into action, so I may just be being a bit to harsh on his character. I was really immersed in the story and was always quick to pick back up where I left off.

I really enjoyed the book and the ending was so satisfying to me. I really get behind stories where as Evie says in the Mummy, "Nasty little people like you always get their comeuppance." I did guess a couple of the plot twists but the ending was a complete shot in the dark and I loved it. As I said, I stayed up so late just to finish it. I can't wait to see how everyone else in the group feels about it, because this book stirred up quite a bit of emotion for me personally.

I literally had to research the narrator because its so choppy, robotic and over-pronounced I thought it was AI. It's unfortunate because I love reading about the Radium Girls. They still glow in their graves and can spike a Geiger from the surface to this day. Such tragic stories being read in a clinical manner is obnoxious but I still listen.

I had to listen twice because I fell asleep the first time, but it was really hard to get through. I love fully dramatized cast recordings, I actively seek them out. This one was just hard to listen to. The lead actress dramatically over-acts and stomps around the entire script to the point where I felt like I was back in high school drama class sitting through the kid who puts ridiculous emphasis on every word in the script.

The story line is mediocre, I'm not mad at it-- but this feels like a tween romance aimed at adults. I probably won't listen again. It was ok.

I had to start this one a few times. It's not that it's boring or slow, I just wasn't that into it at first. I am very sure it is supposed to feel like this becausr of how it is written, but it almost feels like the characters are in the house for YEARS. I remember thinking, "Jesus, are they STILL fkn in there?!" at one point. But the story is pretty good and I like that with each character that gets picked off, a little bit of hope goes with it. This story doesn't end well and I love that. The whole time I kept going, this can't be the end. There can't be a happy ending here.

I ended up regretting that I hadn't finished this book sooner. It was a really great listen and I love how dark it was. It was downright fucked up at some points.

I am a big fan of Marcus's work. And I literally say this EVERY TIME. They're probably tired of hearing it, but I always forget I am not listening to a full cast. I always get lost in their narratives. Nothing but good things to say, another exellent one, Marcus.

The only issue I had was there was a few play playback/reverb problems. And since I am a big fan of the narrator's, I can tell you they are so intentional about their work that they wouldn't have let it go to be published like that. It would have been nice if Audible had gone the extra step to care about quality and let them fix it. But-- they are a part of Amazon. I'm not shocked that quality isn't their bag. It was a bit disgracing in places.

Other than that, this was a really surprising listen for me. I honestly dragged my feet about it and now wish I hadn't. A good fright was had by all.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a nice frame story and it was refreshing that I couldn't guess exactly what happens, as I am one of *those people* who constantly tries to figure out the plot. Easy listening. I regularly follow Marcus' voice acting and narrarion. I really enjoyed the dragon's voice. I am pretty familiar with their voice and that was a totally new, deep facet I hadn't heard before. They really make you feel like you aren't just listening to someone read. Sometimes I forget that I'm not listen to a full cast recording.

This was a fast-paced fairytale that I really enjoyed listening to while puttering around my house. Now, to add it to my ever-growing list of favorites!

It's pretty ironic that this podcast is a blatant ripoff of The Horror Virgin when THV used to be sponsored by Audible.

We don't want this.

I struggled to even listen for a few minutes. It was reminiscent of trying to listen to an audio drama while the radio is on full blast. The orchestra was too loud and playing over the actors. Being neurodivergent this was anxiety inducing and overwhelming I kept going back before reading the synopsis and trying to find overlying apps that may be playing over Audible. Not a fan.

I love this story. I find myself talking back to the main character a lot like it's a movie or a ball game. No matter how may times I listen, I still talk to Alex like he's in the room with me. This book makes me a fly on the wall I'm the story and I love it.

The inclusivity was absolutely my favorite. I didn't read the blurb on the book before I started it (I like surprises) and when I realized Alex was trans I fell even more in love with the book. Love to see it.

The narrator does such a good job of voicing the different characters that I follow along easily. I have epilepsy and sometimes I blank out for a bit and some audiobooks are hard to follow when the voices of all the characters are not distinguished and I haven't listened to it 8 times yet. I don't have so much of a problem when I can easily separate each voice to each character and Marcus makes the listening easy. No matter how many times I listen it's like the first time and I always have emotions along with the characters.

I need book 2, and FAST. I was absolutely drawn in by the premise and the story flowed from beginning to end. No lulls or "boring" moments. I honestly would love a prequel from this author as well. The story is so interesting to me. And the narration was so well done. I almost forgot that it wasn't a dramatized recording because the voices were all done seamlessly and helped my mind paint the picture of the characters.

I am re-listening as soon as I finish this review, I loved it that much.

This was so enthralling. I couldn't stop listening and as a female veteran and mother this whole story just hit me right in all my feelings. The narrator performed it so well I felt like I was there. I will be listening to this one often!
