Historia
Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

Price of War
Revisado: 04-21-25
Overall I think this is a good telling of the morality and cost that war has on those in and effected by it. There’s a lot of very troubling stuff in here surrounding just a few people during Vietnam. I also liked the focus on embellishing stories and adding things that make them unbelievable.

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Not Great
Revisado: 03-26-25
This is more drama than a thriller. It’s also more about unlikable, broken people dealing with baggage. Very plodding and not very engaging. The ending is pretty obvious as well given all the absolutely psychotic behavior over the story.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Very padded
Revisado: 10-12-24
This is obviously a classic tale and has went on to be extremely important but it is rather boring for the most part, padded with unnecessary journal entries. The voice acting quality ranges wildly with Lucy being particularly bad with the annoyingly breathy and forced young voice. This is a good example of why in most cases, a single experienced voice actor is better than an ensemble cast of screen actors.

Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

The master at his scarifying best! From heart-pounding terror to the eeriest of whimsy - tales from the outer limits of one of the greatest imaginations of our time! Trucks that punish and beautiful teen demons who seduce a young man to massacre; curses whose malevolence grows through the years; obscene presences and angels of grace - here, indeed, is a night-blooming bouquet of chills and thrills.

Revisado: 01-07-24
The Mist is the best of this book. Will Patton is a great narrator. There are some good stories on here but most were just boring and drug on like Gramma. The first Milkman story was good an unexpected and the second was ridiculously terrible and unnecessary. I did like how weird the Flexible Bullet was and it’s the only story I wish a kid got shot. That brat deserved it. /s

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Wildly Out There
Revisado: 12-11-23
There are a lot of good plot lines but most don’t pan out to make a good story in my opinion. There’s good misdirection like the names and clothing and even good foreshadowing with the Angel of Debt but it still falls flat on how wildly evil some of the characters have to be to keep the story going. First off, almost all the characters suck on some level and then later some are just insane or evil to let things happen. By the end I was just thinking it should’ve been a satanic cult because of how much of reach it took.
The female VA was fine but the guy was so basic and it really showed when he talked about sexual stuff. So monotone and flat.

Historia
The year is A.D. 922. A refined Arab courtier, representative of the powerful Caliph of Baghdad, encounters a party of Viking warriors who are journeying to the barbaric North. He is appalled by their Viking customs - the wanton sexuality of their pale, angular women, their disregard for cleanliness...their cold-blooded human sacrifices. But it is not until they reach the depths of the Northland that the courtier learns the horrifying and inescapable truth.

So much sex
Revisado: 12-03-23
This story is good but sometimes it can be boring and drawn out. It is preformed very well and worth listening to. Having seen the movie adaptation I was surprised by the amount of sex and descriptions of it and other things. It’s obviously the historical actions of the Norseman and other cultural of that time period. I was just surprised how in-depth they got.

Historia
H.P. Lovecraft considered The Willows to be "the finest supernatural tale in English literature", and its appeal is obvious. In his tale of an adventurous duo who embark on a seemingly innocuous river trip down the Danube, Blackwood personifies the desolate willows to be ominous, alive, and menacing. The river itself brims with human passions, and the elemental winds and heavenly forces all combine to create a sense of a supernatural intelligence orchestrating it all.

Creepy Trees
Revisado: 11-30-23
I’ve seen this book recommended time and time again for horror and I can’t say it lived up to that hype. The story is fine, it’s slower burn horror/suspense but nothing so defining to warrant as many times as I’ve seen it brought up. The narration is fine but there is something about the cadence or inflection that is so deliberate that I always noticed it and it brought me out of the story.

Historia
Christopher Golden's Ararat is the heart-pounding tale of an adventure that goes wrong - on a biblical scale. When an earthquake reveals a secret cave hidden inside Mount Ararat in Turkey, a daring, newly engaged couple are determined to be the first ones inside...and what they discover will change everything. The cave is actually a buried ancient ship that many quickly come to believe is Noah's Ark. When a team of scholars, archaeologists, and filmmakers make it inside the ark, they discover an elaborate coffin in its recesses.

Good story and very gripping.

I usually don’t like religious and spiritual horror stuff like possessions and demons but it was handled so well and interestingly in this that it worked. There was also nuance in the way the violence was used to effect in the story.
