Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

I enjoyed this book, especially the surprise ending that was creepy and well written without seeming obvious.

Historia
Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska. It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest. But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out.

This book was engaging, and creepy, aand the narrator did a marvelous job. I'm a new fan of Ronald Malfi and will read/listen to more of his novels.

Entertaining book
Revisado: 06-17-24
This was a surprisingly well-written book. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of young kids as main characters because in the books I've read, they tend to come off as whiny and heedless. While many are, in this book I liked Will's compassion, humbleness, and love of his sister. His character was a believeable 15-year old neglected and overlooked young man. The story began and ended strong, and there were few dull moments. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to how unrealistic it was the none of the teenagers captured any of the events on any live stream or video, or even had a cell phone to call the police or anyone. Those of us who know teenagers know they will go live just taking the garbage to the curb, let alone encountering vicious creatures. The narrator did a good job reading and I look forward to hearing him on other projects.

Historia
Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive. The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets. Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

A New Fan
Revisado: 02-11-23
My dad liked reading Stephen King novels during my younger years, but I never had desire to pick up any of his books...Fast forward 30 years later and I came across this book; This novel is now one of my top 5 favorites.
The book is well written, the plot is original, the characters are unique, sinister, and smart, and fit within the storyline. The first chapter of the book--first few pages, grip you and jump starts the journey that is a frightening, supernatural, intense roller coaster.
I highly recommend.

This book was not good. The story had a lot of holes, dragged on, and was redundant in its development. The premise was interesting but the story wasn't. I skipped 5 chapters and still couldn't force myself to finish.

Miah Gray is a 27-year-old former army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush, Jen. When the sun's light is blotted out the following morning and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy.

Surprisingly good book!
Revisado: 07-08-18
I had this book in my wish list for two months before finally purchasing it the day before I drove 10 hours (one way) to visit family in NY. Wow! This book held my attention from the first chapter. It did a good job interweaving the stories from past to present day without being confusing. This book was a true whodunit and made my time in the car bearable and pass quickly. The character development was good and the story kept me guessing until close to the end. The narrator, Rebecca Lowman, did a good job with all the characters and I'm looking forward to more Simone St. James books,

Historia
Detroit-based homicide detective John Barnes has seen it all - literally. Thanks to a technologically advanced brain machine, detectives have access to the memories of the living, the dying, and the recently dead. But extracting victims' experiences firsthand and personally reliving everything up to the final, brutal moments of their lives - the sights, the sounds, the scents, the pain - is also the punishment reserved for the criminals themselves. Barnes has had enough. Enough of the memories that aren't his. Enough of the horror.

Just ok
Revisado: 04-14-18
A book club pick that was just ok. Erotica is my least favorite genre but I started this with an open mind and wanting to like it. It's better than "50 Shades," but the lack of character depth and holes in the story, to the seemingly rushed end is what earned it the rating. The reader of the audio book did a good job.
