Historia
In the heart of the Scientific Revolution, when new theories promised to explain the affairs of the universe, Britain was broke, facing a mountain of debt accumulated in war after war it could not afford. But that same Scientific Revolution - the kind of thinking that helped Isaac Newton solve the mysteries of the cosmos - would soon lead clever, if not always scrupulous, men to try to figure a way out of Britain’s financial troubles.

Long and technical
Revisado: 05-12-24
A long book that must be quite a read for people who are far more well-versed with finance and economics than I am 😂
I struggled to understand most of the book as it got quite technical and ‘financy’, but yhe gist of it (I think) is that bubbles happen an greed is a major cause.
Rating: 3/10 (someone more finance savvy than I am will probably give it 8 or 9 though)

An excellent book and a very useful one. This is the second book by Andrew Hallam that I’ve completed, and both were great. Highly recommended for anyone who is considering their financial future.

Interesting but more suited to a vlog then an audiobook
Revisado: 03-11-20
Review of What Happens Next by Adam Savage:
Adam Savage is one of the guys behind Myth Busters. The audiobook (If it can be called one, as it is very short) is interesting, however, it felt more like a podcast than a proper audiobook, and I feel it would have been even better made into a YouTube series, as there were many instances in the audiobook where they went into painstaking detail in describing things that are in front of them at a major futuristic event called MARS, which the book revolves around. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you are keen on learning about some of the technologies that we will have in the future (distant and not so distant future). The audiobook gives examples of how technological advancements could and should be used to improve our lives and to help humanity navigate the challenges of the present and the future.

Excellent book.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook, the countless examples, the narration and the concepts it discussed are great, and the key things to take from it are:
- In order to thrive, you don’t need to be super talented or work an insane amount of hours, what is more important is being in an environment that allows you to thrive.
- Trust is crucial. In a society or a culture that lacks trust, you end up having an environment that is characterized by selfishness, backstabbing, no consideration for the common good and no progress.
- Happiness = Strong bonds and relationships with the people who matter in your life, not more money.
- We schedule time for meetings, phone calls, events etc. at work, but ironically, we do not schedule time for actual ‘deep work’, as in, periods of time that does not have distractions and interruptions from others. The book has many tips to tackle the challenges of a non-stop work environment.
- The ‘shallow work’ is what keeps you in your job (i.e. not get fired). ‘Deep work’ is what gets you promoted.

Interesting insights, but not applicable globally

Interesting insights and examples from seal combat experience and American corporate boardrooms, but I doubt the concepts would work in many corporate cultures.
