I can see where they got the plot for the movie
Revisado: 03-28-20
but don't go into this thinking you're going to be getting an audio version of the movie. this book, while decades ahead of it's time and quite wrong about how quickly we'd develop technologically, is done as an interview between a journalist and Dr Calvin who relates stories in a flashback fashion.
Over all I found the story fascinating and telling of the psychology of the time it was written in and while I enjoyed the performance, the whole thing felt a little too much like radio or listening to a journalists personal recordings and notes.
If you're interested in the origins of the movie and want an interesting view of robotics that isn't Terminator, give this a listen and give it a chance. Enjoy!

do not proceed to listen to this book if you are easily offended!
that said, this was quite the experience, mixing typical D&D cliches with typical gameplay and more than a little of your typical players. the storytelling though is masterful and while we of the plot twists I saw coming, others caught me off guard. the writer knows his stuff and this was a pleasure to listen to. I only wish the rest were in another volume for continuous listening!

Wil Wheaton does an amazing job.
Revisado: 09-02-19
if you're this far in the books, then I need not explain anything. If you're coming here first, I highly recommend seeking out book 1.Things will make more sense and this book contains spoilers for the first 5.
the pacing is nice, characters are distinguishable for the most part and Wil does a good job. the books are masterfully written in my opinion, though they feel short after book 3. Zelazney built a great universe and always starts with world ending problems and spends many books telling you how it comes to be concluded. if you're looking for epic fantasy of a modern tone, look no further than Nine Princes in Amber and you'll be here soon.

Historia
So now you've heard all about me, Alcatraz Smedry, and how I was swept out of my life in your normal world and into the fight against the Librarians (jerks!). After being all heroic and stuff in that tale, I didn’t expect to charge headlong into enemy territory: the Library of Alexandria, where I—and my grandpa and my grouchy bodyguard Bastille and her even grouchier mother and some weirdly gifted cousins—run across the Curators (ghosts who will gladly help you check out a book as long as you don’t mind giving up your mortal soul) and some new nasty Librarians who hate our guts.

Read the end first. I dare you. That said, another excellent title. Perhaps you're the kind who likes to start with book 2? This is non fiction. Be warned.

Historia
Everything I’d known about the world was a lie. On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry (yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask), received my inheritance: a bag of sand. And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think!

Sanderson's first book, a fantasy for the ages
Revisado: 03-12-19
I listened on 1.15x speed because the guy talks a little slow. of the cosmere books, this is probably my favorite. it doesn't tell you much about how things work like his other books but it was fantastic in its mystery. it also has a great introduction to Hoid who is important later on in every other cosmere book. definitely a great starting point for new comers. the narrator does good voices and the characters are well written. if you think you want to try Sanderson I'd suggest starting here.

have you seen the movie?
Revisado: 10-17-18
I have seen the original movie and the sci-fi mini series countless time but never read the book. I finally decided to sit down and listen to it expecting to find the movies to have done the book very little justice. instead I found the performances gripping, the details left out in the movies to be fascinating but understandable why they were left out or different. i was thrown by some of the pronunciations of words like the word for the fremen homes and the fremen elites. all in all, I was impressed and happy to finally tuck this one under my belt. now....on to the house books!
