Historia
When Savannah history Professor Everly Winthrop is asked to guest-curate a new museum collection focusing on artifacts recovered from the steamship Pulaski, she's shocked. The ship sank after a boiler explosion in 1838, and the wreckage was just discovered, 180 years later. Everly can't resist the opportunity to try to solve some of the mysteries and myths surrounding the devastating night of its sinking. Everly's research leads her to the astounding history of a family of 11 who boarded the Pulaski together, and the extraordinary stories of two women from this family.

Fascinating story
Revisado: 03-27-25
I spent my formative years in NC. Even tho I left over 40 years ago, I retained my Southern accent and my way of seeing the world. Ms Callahan does a good job creating a believable depiction of Savanah’s culture. However! The Southern accents, especially those in the 1800s, were not realistic. Too often, people trying to emulate Southern accents, when it is not their native way of speaking, over dramatize inflections and pronunciations of certain words. There is often a tendency to stereotype the cadence and rhythms of genuine Southern English. I found this an unfortunate distraction in the telling of this beautiful story. I liked the characters, and references to the significance of my hometown in the storyline, so I stayed until the end. Otherwise, I would have found listening to be too much for my Southern sensibilities!

Revisado: 03-22-25
This novel took hold of me and would not let go. I listened until 2:30 AM … encompassing over 12 hours of listening. Of course, Julia Whelan’s brilliant narration adds to the magic. Theo Solomon has a new devotee, as well. Would rate more than 5 stars if that was an option! Bravo Ms Callahan Henry ✨

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Disappointment
Revisado: 06-30-24
Rarely do I depend on reviews before using a cherished credit. Unfortunately, I ignored my usual instincts, and trusted the multiple 5 star reviews about this novel and the narration. I want to remain kind, but I must say, this was a complete waste of my credit and my time! I honestly tried, several times, to listen! Nothing about the novel appealed to me except the title and premise.

As I have said before, I could listen to Julia Whelan read a dictionary! In my opinion, one can ALWAYS count on Ms Whelan’s narration to captivate. This is my first time ‘reading’ Ms Scotch. I will certainly check out more of her writings. A sequel to this story would be fun! I’m curious to know more about ALL of these already well developed.characters.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

I can listen to just about anything Julia Whelan narrates. When I saw that she had written a novel, and narrated that particular novel, I could hardly contain myself from listening. Everything about this book is exceptional to my taste. If you are looking for a story whose characters are plausible, and the storyline engrossing from the opening sentence, listen to “Thank You for Listening.” To you, Ms Whelan, I say “Bravo” and, “Thank you!”

I ‘read’ this book based on a review stating that it was “stress free”. Often times reviews are not in line with my personal preferences. This particular review was exactly correct. An added bonus to the plot is Ell Potter’s brilliant narration. I will seek out another Jackie Fraser novel as well as an ELL Potter narration.
