I really love Simon Brett's work, but I must admit I felt let down on this one. Elements in the plot are duplicates from the first book in this series (I won't go into details, as I don't want to spoil the plot). I finished this with the realization that I really, really miss Charles Paris and the snarky humor from that series. If there is a 3rd book in this series I might buy it but, unless it is a more inspired plot, that will be the last for me.

I love this story but...

The background music and sounds are really overwhelming to me. I am trying really hard to adjust to this because I purchased the entire dragon king trilogy in graphic audio. Update: Nope. Honestly there is so much background audio that it gives me a headache. Sorry, guys, but this one is a hard pass for me.

Strange volume fluctuations

I really want to listen to this, but there is no way. It's like trying to listen to a radio while someone raises and lowers the volume the whole time.

Unfortunately, this is one of those books where the narrator's voice gets quiet, but then when switching characters gets loud. it makes it really difficult to listen to.

wrong narrator

I love Agatha Raisin but, like others have mentioned in the last few books, Alison Larkin is just not the right voice for the Agatha Raisin series. I can only assume that she must be under contract as a narrator. Why else would she continue to read for this series when she is so obviously wrong for it? I'm still purchasing books from this series, but this one has pushed me to my limit. I am struggling to get past the voice in order to hear the story. Honestly, is too taxing on my ears and I will not likely buy another Agatha Raisin unless there is a different narrator. My apologies to Alison.

A rare gem

This is a book you will want to read/hear. Eloquent and captivating, Derek Jacobi does an amazing job as narrator (of course!), :) and the story is masterfully written.

Yes it's crude. But to an 8 year olds boy, it is funny, and the adventure and lessons of the story are top notch. I look forward to the next book.
