Inspiring but demanding!
Revisado: 04-07-17
This is a thrilling book, written by someone who has clearly a great mind. His representation of Popper's thought is strongly inspiring.
Many parts are quite hard to grasp - one has to struggle to get through!
I would listen to it again few years down the road for sure!

Excellent sci-fi story with a very nice reading!
Revisado: 11-06-16
The story is very attractive, with a refreshing Chinese approach to traditional sci-fi topics. The writing is good and one can feel close to the various characters. It's a surprisingly contemporary tale about science and humanity! Very well read by Rodgers!

The Varieties of Religious Experience

Historia
First published in 1905, The Varieties of Religious Experience is a collection of lectures given at the University of Edinburgh in 1901 and 1902. William James was a psychologist and, as such, his interest in religion was not that of a theologian but of a scientist. In these 20 lectures, he discusses the nature and origin of religious belief. The average believer is one who has inherited his religion, but this will not do for James's inquiry.

Too dense and complex
Revisado: 08-24-16
It has been very hard to listen to this (long) book until the end. It requires a quite advanced understanding of philosophy already (which I was not familiar with, unfortunately).
Additionally, the collection of these religious experiences was boring to listen to at time (too often it was the same experience again and again).
The book might be interesting for scholars, but it is definitely too high level for the average reader I think I am!

Historia
Faced with the ceaseless stream of news about war, crime, and terrorism, one could easily think we live in the most violent age ever seen. Yet as New York Times bestselling author Steven Pinker shows in this startling and engaging new work, just the opposite is true: violence has been diminishing for millennia and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species's existence.

A perfect book, a great performance
Revisado: 06-13-16
Where does The Better Angels of Our Nature rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This one was the best. The quality of the content, touching to a wide range of sociological, scientifical, historical and political topics is matched by the performance of Arthur Morey.
What did you like best about this story?
It changes the way we can look at human history and human interaction, and it does that through a very serious, scientifical process. The approach is very rigourous, healthly skeptical in its essence. Easy explainations or shortcuts are avoided, which makes this book extremely convinving and relevant. It really helps to understand the work we are living in.
What about Arthur Morey’s performance did you like?
Clear diction, nice tempo, easy to understand and to me was somekind in line's with the author mindset.
Any additional comments?
I will certainly read it again next year. It was fantastic! I recommended it to all my friends!

Why do Internet, financial service, and beer commercials dominate Super Bowl advertising? How do political ceremonies establish authority? Why does repetition characterize anthems and ritual speech? Why were circular forms favored for public festivals during the French Revolution? This book answers these questions using a single concept: common knowledge.

Repetitive book as it's about one single concept
Revisado: 06-13-16
What did you like best about Rational Ritual? What did you like least?
The concept of Rational Ritual is a very interesting one and actually helps understand certain situation - this book is useful in the sense that it makes the reader aware about the phenomenon.
The problem with this book is that it is very very repetitive and the same content/sentence are coming back all the time.
What do you think your next listen will be?
The next on Zuckerberg's list :-)
Was Rational Ritual worth the listening time?
It's a bit long for the content - it could have been way richer for the same time, adding insight from other sociological studies for instance.
