Great story. Dreadful performance!
Revisado: 10-03-23
The narrator has raw talent but was unbelievably bad in narrative scenes. Additionally she had more mispronounced words than I have ever heard in an audiobook before. For heaven’s sake get this done by a trained talent. Elizabeth Rodgers, January LaVoy, or Alexandra Ralph

Historia
Welcome to the world of real vampires. A world within our human world, populated with the kind of people that humans would be if they lived hundreds of years and had enhanced abilities. They look like us, and like we humans, their deadliest enemies are their own kind—and maybe a vindictive demigoddess.

Revisado: 08-10-23
The fantasy universe of the Triad books is unique and compelling. It is the most complete of any I have read or listened to before. The narrator was awesome and the scene in the clearing was great.

A very good story and a super narration.
Revisado: 02-21-23
First, the story is very good and the different concept on vampires has me looking looking for tattoos on people so I can relax.
These are new super heroes that feel like people you might really know. The concept of Triad is fresh and new to me. Even DC Comics’ Legion of Superheroes hasn’t come up with this yet.
The narration, or I should say, performance, lifts this to the upper echelons of audiobooks. Alexandra Ralph is the best narrator I have heard and I have been listening to audiobooks since Barbara Rosenblat did the first Mrs. Polifax book. I believe Ms. Ralph should get ten stars.

Historia
Eddy Hart is a not so hard-boiled private investigator. Amidst blackmail, murder, and political intrigue that pit Eddy against Nazi spies and the Los Angeles mob, he finds unexpected support from a wealthy industrialist and discovers his secretary is anything but a simple Iowa farm girl. Just like 1940s America, Eddy’s world is about to change.

First book in a great series.
Revisado: 02-02-22
D. P. Gertner is a masterful storyteller. Set in L. A. in 1940 before the U.S. entry into WWII, this story has everything. Corrupt cops, top mobsters, rich people, and spies. It is easy to believe you are there on the mean streets in a city rife with corruption, which we tend to forget most of the time.
The narrators are absolutely top quality. It is really easy to believe that Nate Marble is Eddy Hart and Alexandra is equally convincing as all the female characters.
You owe it to yourself to listen to this. It is brilliant.

The writing is wonderful and the performance is superb. Lexi George created an amazing cast of wonderful characters and Alexandra Ralph brought them to life in an award worthy performance. From demons to heroes to Dooley the Dog and beyond, the performance was the best I have ever heard. I have listened to it twice and will listen many more times. A huge “Thank You” to the funniest team of women I have ever heard, Lexi and Alexandra. Massive kudos to you both.

Historia
It started as a bet in a tropical casino poker parlor and ended as the adventure of the lifetime for two novice sailors. Pat Taylor and Tracy Palmer never dreamed when they set out on a boat-buying mission that they’d end up with a magnificent vessel like The Lady Anne, a two-year-old Clarriage Sixty-Eight worth three million dollars. But that’s what happened, and when they set out on their maiden voyage, the odyssey that awaited them was both wonderful and deadly.

What an unexpected surprise! I had never heard of Jim Schoendaller, but have been a fan of Jeanne Stein for many years. So this was a wonderful surprise. A really great story and the best narrator going.
Alexandra Ralph truly had me crying and laughing in a SciFi book. That is beyond remarkable. This is not a fast paced book, but it works! Pat, Tracy and Reid feel like real people to me.
Thanks Jim, Jeanne and Alexandra.

Helping her move on from her failed marriage, and create a new life, sounds like a perfect distraction.

There is no better way to completely ruin a good story than to write in first person, present tense. I know it is very trendy, but so is wearing your pants below your butt and showing dirty underwear. They are equivalent.

I can’t believe it.
Revisado: 05-01-21
For many years, I have been a fan of Susan Ericksen and Brilliance Audio. Maybe this was the first thing they ever did. The reading is full of mistakes, the production values awful.
Frankly, I was shocked. Did no one proof this? The story is pretty lame also. Not Anne McCaffrey’s best by far.

Revisado: 07-30-20
Very ably performed by Lessa Lamb this book is another outstanding example of the fun writing of the Gertners. I have great hopes this will develop into another of their charming series of wonderful characters. This is the first for Claire who appears in the Eddie Hart series and perhaps the first collaboration by the Gertners.

Really, really excellent
Revisado: 04-14-20
I have some pretty severe opinions. I prefer audiobooks to reading and I love to read. I adore great audio performances and when I look at a list of potential reads, I look to see who the narrator is first. I have a good list of favorite narrators and have found many authors I like because of the narrators.
I found this pairing together. I got Shadow Council on a special promotion and was only a little into the first book when I realized this pairing of Julie C. Gilbert and Liz Brand was a total winner.
I am now an absolute fan of both!!
Julie C. Gilbert can really write. She has descriptive skills, plotting skills, grammar skills and more. I am a big fan now.
Liz Brand is a exceptional narrator and handles the job of becoming the characters with a high degree of ability. Her character voices are distinct and separate. Her natural voice is pleasing and precise. I will be looking for other books she has done.
I am sold on both and highly recommend Shadow Council to anyone who enjoys audiobooks.
The overall feel of the production is a Catherine Coulter type of FBI series.
It left me wanting more.
