Historia
The Academy of Chaenbalu has stood against magic for centuries. Hidden from the world, acting from the shadows, it trains its students to detect and retrieve magic artifacts, which it jealously guards from the misuse of others. Because magic is dangerous: Something that heals can also harm, and a power that aids one person may destroy another. Of the academy’s many students, only the most skilled can become Avatars - warrior thieves, capable of infiltrating the most heavily guarded vaults - and only the most determined can be trusted to resist the lure of magic.

A little tropey at the start but quickly changed
Revisado: 02-28-22
I was pleasantly surprised by this book after almost putting it down a few hours in. The tropes are heavy on the beginning and I initially felt as I'd read this all before. I'm not quite sure when the switch happened but at one point I was struggling to pay attention and kept having to rewind and they next I was finding every excuse I could pop my buds in and pick it back up.
Excited to start book 2!

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Flat narration on a boring story

A rather fun, if gory, take on the invasion trope.
Revisado: 08-16-19
The story was great but John Waters is not the ideal narrator for a book like this. Lots of fun with weird twists galore.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Quite enjoyable
Revisado: 08-01-19
I loved the premise, a really cool take on an old trope. it worked. I enjoyed Quinton but he was a bit more inconsistent than I would expect from such a seasoned performer, especially considering the length. However, it didn't take away from the overall performance.

Poor narration and chapters out of order.
Revisado: 04-29-19
The chapters are out of order. It was very disappointing and confusing. I ended up listening to the end of the book first, nothing made sense and ended up running the book for me. The narrator also did a very poor job on this book, his pronunciations and accents are tough to stomach. I'm very disappointed because I love the Malazan universe and I don't know if I'll ever finish this book unless I read the actual text.
