Historia
For over 40 years, Art Keller has been on the front lines of America's longest conflict: the War on Drugs. His obsession to defeat the world's most powerful, wealthy, and lethal kingpin - the godfather of the Sinaloa Cartel, Adan Barrera - has left him bloody and scarred, cost him people he loves, even taken a piece of his soul. Now Keller is elevated to the highest ranks of the DEA, only to find that in destroying one monster, he has created 30 more that are wreaking even more chaos and suffering in his beloved Mexico.

Sad to Lose This Author
Revisado: 03-26-19
Previously a fan of this author, I had to give up with twelve hours left. I couldn't stand the snarky lefty political comments. C'mon, Don, don't you realize that half of America likes what Trump has accomplished? Leave the politics out.

Historia
As usual, the RAF top brass don't know what to do with maverick flying ace and well-known loose cannon Major Bartholomew Bandy. They pack him off to a squadron where the flying record barely registers, thinking it'll keep him out of their hair. But after a shaky start, Bart gets a firm grip on things - one of those things being the adjutant, who jealously guards his own private and baroquely magnificent WC. With old pal Dick Milestone, Bart reinvigorates the superbly turned-out but demoralized pilots, who start doing some serious flying and very serious damage to the enemy.

Doesn't Work for Me
Revisado: 06-23-18
Couldn't get very far due to the narrator's supercilious high pitched voice. The author has created a silly protagonist and the narration makes the hero a total twit. Too bad because the story sounded interesting.

Historia
Colonial New Guinea, 1906: A small group of mostly German nudists lives an extreme back-to-nature existence on the remote island of Kabakon. Eating only coconuts and bananas, they purport to worship the sun. One of their members, Max Lutzow, has recently died, allegedly from malaria. But an autopsy on his body in the nearby capital of Herbertshöhe raises suspicions about foul play.

Who Really Wrote This?
Revisado: 09-20-14
A departure from McKinty's usual fine works, this novel seems an unlikely tale of drug-addled societal escapees who go from being brain dead to a mob of killers. Even the good guys are unlikable. The finale seems contrived to quickly end a miserable effort. The historical portrait of time and place is superficial. If this were the only work I'd read by this author, it would be my last.

A Multifaceted Gem
Revisado: 04-01-11
As a physician I usually avoid novels and TV shows about medicine. So I approached this book with some reservations. The portrayal of third world medical practice and hospital conditions seemed spot on authentic based on my own brief experience as an American medical student years ago in a similar place. The viewpoint of foreign medical graduates training in US community hospitals was enlightening and humbling to me. I have many FMG colleagues and never fully appreciated what additional problems they had to overcome. The plot held interest, the characters were well developed and diverse, the medical issues were beautifully described and the narrator was terrific: a rewarding experience which even medical laymen should enjoy.

Beautiful Appreciation of Life
Revisado: 04-28-09
A beautifully written but mournful tale, an old man's unusually insightful reminiscence of his apparently mundane life. Old Jack represents THE man of the earth who sees that his values of work, independence and responsibility are on the wane even by the early 1950's. It is however no jeremiad, rather a celebration of life. In the end he does leave successors who understand and will carry on his values. The narrator is perfect.
