Engrossing, visceral tale
Revisado: 09-01-14
This book was a really pleasant surprise to me. It's a very graphically written novel that transports you to another time and place, making you believe you are with those characters in that time.
The narrative is exceptional. And the performance by Chris Hendrie makes it all work. Hendrie has the ability not only to read narrative so that you can literally see what is happening, stimulating one's own imagination to flesh it all out, but he has a remarkable ability to differentiate the characters so there is clarity and involvement at every turn.
There is humor and suspense in the novel, but the delivery by Hendrie truly pulled me forward--wanting to know more about the characters, and what would come next in this volatile and dangerous world.
I highly recommend it.

Historia
After the smashing success of his first novel, This Side of Paradise, written when he was 23, F. Scott Fitzgerald rocked the literary world with his masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, in l925 - a passionate love story about a poor young man's unwavering love for the lovely Daisy, belle of Louisville. Told with extraordinarily beautiful language, Fitzgerald's characters sizzle with vitality and life as Gatsby pursues the love of his life amid the splendor of his Long Island estate by throwing truly amazing parties set to the music of the Jazz Age.

Rekindled Appreciation
Revisado: 05-26-13
Not having listened to audio books often, I did not know whether I would appreciate revisiting F. Scott Fitzgerald this way. However, once I got going, the narration by Chris Hendrie pulled me into the story with a renewed interest in these great characters, but also a great appreciation of the language and imagery of the work. I especially appreciated the ease with which Hendrie moves from character to character--making each distinct in their dialogue without interrupting the driving flow of the narration. That is not easy to do. And his charming ability to be the men and the women, without trying to do some kind of voiceover imitation of a woman, made the book easy to listen to and never distracted me from the work itself. All in all, a great classic brought to life by a terrific performance. One which rekindled my interest in the author himself.
