Book 2
Revisado: 02-04-23
I was given a free copy of this audio book in exchange for my honest review.
I am going to give a content warning for this book, there is quite a bit of bloody violence, abuse, and suicidal thoughts.
So I am now two books into this series and I appreciate that this is a plot driven series as opposed to a romance. If you are here for smut this isn’t the book for you. There is love and couples, but the main focus is uniting the 5 kingdoms and defeating the (truly despicable) villain.
I also like that the main male character is struggling with more than just his feeling for the female lead. He is navigating his past poor decisions and working through big emotional baggage.
My main complaint with this book is that it felt rushed. I thought it could have been expanded on quite a bit, but I am a sucker for big long books so that might just be a me thing.
This narrator is great. You as the listener always know who is talking and she keeps you engaged.
I am very hopeful for the next book!

Sweet YA Fairy Fantasy
Revisado: 12-12-21
I received a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This book reminded me a lot of the Netflix series Winx. If you like Cassandra Claire books, fulfilling prophesies, and fairy tales come to life, this book will be right up your alley.
I feel like any amount of review I leave will contain major spoilers so just trust me that it's sweet, with fun world building, and a promising plot. I look forward to the next book to see where the author takes the story. ALSO I love the pop culture references, it makes the main character really feel like she's from our world.
The narrator for the audiobook does a fantastic job! She is able to create distinct voices without them being distracting or cheeky, even the male characters. And she just has the most pleasant British accent.

FANTASTIC
Revisado: 12-10-21
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
if you are looking for a new and unique series I highly highly recommend the Magic Eaters!
This audiobook combines not only the trilogy but also a prequel story. I listened to the prequel story after I finished the trilogy and I felt like it really rounded out everything and recommend reading it in that order. I highly recommend this book for people who like The Lunar Chronicles, the Hunger Games, or Harry Potter
The Frost Eater:
This book is very interesting. It's a post-apocalyptic world that has gained magic from the source of the apocalypse. The magic users get their magic by eating things related to their magic, like people who have ice powers have to eat ice and people who can fly have to eat feathers. It's a little bizarre, but even in the world it is acknowledged that it's kind of weird. At the beginning of some chapters you are reading an account from the first generation after the apocalypse happened and they talk about how it's kind of weird that these kids are craving strange things and then suddenly have magical powers.
There is romance, but it's not the driving force of the story. There's a strong plot and very clear world building. I was uncertain whether or not I would like the lead female character (Nora) at the beginning of the book but by the end I felt like she was very three-dimensional and a character that I would root for. Kray, the lead male, is great. I love that even though he is strong and brave, he can get overly emotional and be really vulnerable. The characters are well rounded but they read as their age (upper teen). I appreciate that they are not 17-year-olds with the worldly experience of a 50-year-old, because who isn't tired of that.
The Vine Eater:
I love books that switch between multiple perspectives. I feel like you really can get a well rounded idea of what is going on and why characters make the decisions they do. And this is one of the few books I have read where I don't dread one the character perspectives, they are all interesting!
The first book had interspersed chapters from The First Generation diary, and this book had articles from a newspaper before "the day", and I really liked the shift. The author wrote the articles to line up with things happening in the actual story, but I really like how they gave a clearer picture of the pre day world. I felt like that was really missing in the first book and I was lost a little in the setting, but this addition in this book filled in those gaps for me.
The Stone Eater:
Going into the third book I had no idea how the author was going to tie up all of the loose ends by the end of it, but do not fear future reader she succeeds. I left this book feeling truly satisfied with the ending. Several moments had me on the edge of my seat and I often found myself saying "I swear if the author does this I'm gonna scream".
The Seers Sister:
I honestly felt so torn listening to this book because you know how it's going to end. I mean the whole setup for the series it's post-apocalyptic and this story happens before the apocalypse. So you as the reader know that this book will end with the world ending, but the characters are trying to stop it. I felt like this prequel was such a good conclusion to the overall story because it really circled back around to the beginning of the first book. I think Carol Beth Anderson deserves an award for the series.

What a delight!
Revisado: 07-25-21
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I actually think I liked this book better than the first in the series. It felt like a wonderful blend of Jane Austen court drama and a classic fairytale retelling.
Following the events of The Storyteller’s Daughter, Anika is established as Lady of WaterEdge Manor but it isn’t quite the adventure she was looking for. After the war the villages are struggling to survive, and Anika is afraid of losing the lands she so recently acquired. When she comes across a group of bandits playing Robin Hood, she is forced to question her morals as well as what she is willing to do to feel as though she belongs.
Ellen Quay does a lovely job with the narration. I was never pulled out of the story, and there were no noticeable mistakes. I was very impressed with her ability to do different and distinct male voices without sounding silly.
Spoilers:
I love a good happily ever after, and this book even had a quick little cliffhanger nugget at the end that I was not anticipating so I am excited to listen to the third book once it is available.
I did find some of the “plot twists” predictable, but not upsettingly so. Overall the book had a consistent tone and it worked.
I kind of wish Landon would have come to live with Anika, but I understand why he was sent to live with Jack and his wife. But it made me sad.

Best of the series
Revisado: 07-18-21
I definitely thought this book was the best of the series. I felt like the author finally kind of settled into the world and settled into the story. My only complaint is at the final battle felt a little anticlimactic but it may have just been because I was doing an audiobook of it rather than reading a physical copy.
overall I enjoyed the series and would definitely recommend it to somebody who likes urban fantasy and shifter stories.

I love a good Fairytale
Revisado: 06-16-21
To start I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book is really great if you are looking for a unique fairytale retelling. The setting was really well laid out and the plot was easy to follow. It's also nice that this is a stand-alone book so the story wraps up nicely at the end, but if you are invested in the characters there are other books by the author that are in the same world.
The narrator is adorable and I firmly believe she should be a princess. She didn't do voices for the different characters but I honestly didn't need it. She never did anything with a narration that pulled me out and that to me is testament to a good narrator.
There is romance but there is no smut so if you're looking for steamy sex scenes this is not the book for you.
Overall this is a lighthearted quick read with adorable characters and fairytale magic.
This next portion of the review contains spoilers.
I did feel like the author watched once upon a Time before writing this book because there was a blend of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale and beauty and the beast in my opinion.
I really liked the lead female character. I definitely saw her grow throughout the book. I always say this but I felt like the book could have been a little bit longer to elaborate on her time in the castle, but that's probably just because I was really invested in her and I really liked the writing style.
I do wish that we could have been present for Conrad showing more of his true colors because I wanted him to be more of a villain than he ended up being. We are supposed to believe Rumpelstiltskin in multiple cases that Conrad is kind of a jerk but Cosette never sees that first hand so we never see it firsthand.
I am so happy that this book had a happy ending because it started to feel like it wasn't going to and I'm all about my happy endings.
overall I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes fairy tale retellings or like to the TV show once a time.

To start, I received a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
My review contains minor spoilers, you've been warned.
I loved this book. The narrator has a lovely voice and did an excellent performance. She kept a good pace and had distinct voices for the characters so it was easy to keep track of who was speaking.
The story is simple but unique. I honestly wanted the book to be longer (or even a duology) to get more world building because the author created a really interesting futuristic setting that has a lot of potential. The epilogue left it open ended for more books but I don't know if there will be more. I hope the will be!
The book has romance but really only kissing and reference to virginity so it's appropriate for a younger audience. The character does read romance novels that have smut but never goes into detail. There is also minimal use of swearing but it does happen like three or four times.
I definitely recommend this book for anyone who liked the lunar chronicles, the selection series, or the princess diaries. It's a quick read that is a lot of fun and I didn't want to put it down.
Also it has a happy ending, and I loved it. Very satisfying.

The book was amazing but at one point the make narrator did the wrong voices for 2 of his characters, it didn't hinder the story but it was distracting. I do love that all of the characters are so distinct that I can tell which character is talking just by listening. not all narrators are that good
