Reacher is careful.
Revisado: 03-07-25
Good story, but sometimes confusing. Remarkably strong characters, both good and bad. But the undercover secret is easily exposed to the reader relatively early in the story. It did not lessen the intensity of the narrative, and Reacher’s success did not depend solving the nature of the treachery. Unfortunately, The narrator was particularly bland, not a good voice for this story.

Historia
Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

A surprising turn for Follett.
Revisado: 02-15-25
Perhaps somewhat unrealistic, but nevertheless believable. Great characters and excellent stories which are not really tied together as neatly as Follet usually does.

Sharply observant and outrageously funny, Rejection is a provocative plunge into the touchiest problems of modern life. The seven connected stories seamlessly transition between the personal crises of a complex ensemble and the comic tragedies of sex, relationships, identity, and the internet.

An author clearly impressed with his own astute command of the language. Insipid tales assessing self-worth, a few somewhat interesting passages but overall boring.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Agonizingly long
Revisado: 12-12-24
The story was OK but like a certain amount of dram and conflict. Excruciatingly repetitive. Could’ve spent a little more time adding some wants to the characters. I was glad when it ended.

Historia
Brooke wants. She isn’t in need, but there are things she wants. A sense of purpose, for instance. She wants to make a difference in the world, to impress her mother along the way, to spend time with friends and secure her independence. Her job assisting an octogenarian billionaire in his quest to give away a vast fortune could help her achieve many of these goals. It may inspire new desires as well: proximity to wealth turns out to be nothing less than transformative. What is money, really, but a kind of belief?

A woman invented by men.
Revisado: 08-07-24
I enjoyed this story for its humor and its peculiar plot. Bella (Victoria) is delightful and charming and though she is self possessed she is also naïve to the point of embarrassment. A free woman she may be, but she is also invented by the men who have chosen her and also manipulated by the society of men. it is only after the death of god that she is free to be a service to herself and the people she wants to help. This seems largely a fiction dictated by reality of the late 19th century, Though I was disappointed in the outcome. It is still an engaging story.

Historia
Verity Jane, gifted app whisperer, takes a job as the beta tester for a new product: a digital assistant, accessed through a pair of ordinary-looking glasses. "Eunice", the disarmingly human AI in the glasses, manifests a face, a fragmentary past, and a canny grasp of combat strategy. Realizing that her cryptic new employers don’t yet know how powerful and valuable Eunice is, Verity instinctively decides that it’s best they don’t.

A tedious and unimaginative sequel.
Revisado: 07-14-24
I really loved Peripheral. But with this book Gibson is just playing his own mind game. He uses a few characters which were so engaging earlier and just has them perform nothing. This is a tedious story. It goes nowhere. There is no one to like particularly and nothing of a plot that one can follow. Endless detail without substance leads nowhere. Do not waste your time with this. I know Gibson to be a better writer, especially when he’s creating something new.
