Historia
A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the Pursuit of Happiness in America set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are.

If you decide to listen, I would get a hard copy of the book so that you can look at footnotes in real time. I plan on listening again just so I can fully appreciate the notes. Great story telling. I bet everyone that finishes this book immediately goes back and listens to the first chapter again.

Historia
Most readers are familiar with Jack London's stories of the frozen northland, such as White Fang and To Light a Fire, but many critics feel he should be equally acknowledged for his fascinating stories of the South Pacific. Here is another remote corner of the world, a background for his magnificently colorful and entertaining Tales of the South Pacific.

Surprisingly Good

I was reticent to listen to this because I'm not much of a Jack London fan. I found London's style works much better in short form than for novels. Interesting insight into an exotic time and place. Readers should understand that what society deems as acceptable language changes over time.

Historia
Retired to the English countryside, an 89-year-old man, rumored to be a once-famous detective, is more concerned with his beekeeping than with his fellow man. Into his life wanders Linus Steinman, nine years old and mute, who has escaped from Nazi Germany with his sole companion: an African gray parrot. What is the meaning of the mysterious strings of German numbers the bird spews out-a top-secret SS code? The keys to a series of Swiss bank accounts? Or do they hold a significance both more prosaic and far more sinister?

Story fine (albeit derivative) but the language choices were tedious. Not the worst use of a few hours.

Historia
Stewart Gilmour is back in Stonemouth. After five years in exile his presence is required at the funeral of patriarch Joe Murston, and even though the last time Stu saw the Murstons he was running for his life, staying away might be even more dangerous than turning up. An estuary town north of Aberdeen, Stonemouth, with its five mile beach, can be beautiful on a sunny day. On a bleak one it can seem to offer little more than seafog, gangsters, cheap drugs and a suspension bridge irresistible to suicides.

Hope this doesn’t reflect Millennial lit

Bleh. At least it was short. More time spent describing Apple products than developing characters. Didn’t care about anyone by the end. And by the way an automatic handgun does not “click” when it is empty - the slide locks back.
