Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

So so story
Revisado: 08-13-24
I thought the premise sounded good but it just became boring after awhile. The characters had very little personality.

Too Preachy
Revisado: 08-13-24
Have enjoyed this series for years but it has declined. I don't read mysteries to be lectured about political correctness. The story was too contrived, This may be the last book in the series for me.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Overall I enjoyed this book, but I think the overuse of the F-word was lazy writing. The plot was good and I enjoyed the depiction of the small town, but it could have been trimmed a bit.

too much of a good thing
Revisado: 10-08-23
I love the series and this was very good, but just way too long. I think it would have been even more powerful if it had been shorter. The narration was good and I did persevere to the end, but I think it would have been more powerful at a shorter length.

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like "Buying the Plot" and "Nodding Off," Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life.

I usually listen to fiction, but decided to break my routine and listen to an autobiography. I really enjoyed listening to Billy narrate his life. I just wih he would come back and host the Oscars again.

Enjoyable History
Revisado: 07-20-23
Very pleasant mystery set in San Francisco. I live in San Francisco so I was pleased that the author got the details right. I love history and the book has an interesting premise which is based on fact from gold rush days. Crews really did abandon their ships when they got to San Francisco (aka Yerba Buena) during the gold rush and remains of the ships are often discovered when there is construction in the downtown area. One detail of the book really surprised me. At one point Jack Armstrong takes a date to see The African Queen at the Vogue theatre which shows new as well as old movies. I saw the same movie at the same theatre in 1968. A small detail but for me it was an extra pleasure in the pains the author took to get the details right.

Each of these ingenious tales is a gem, sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous, always filled with delightfully unanticipated twists and reversals. For people who have yet to listen to Lippman, get ready to experience the spellbinding power of "one of today's most pleasing storytellers" ( San Diego Union-Tribune). As for longtime devotees of her multiple award-winning novels, you'll discover that you hardly know her.

I like Laura Lippman's books but this collection of short stories is not one of her best. I know Baltimore is pretty seedy but I don't want story after story about scheming hookers ,

Series is Still Going Strong
Revisado: 11-21-22
Really enjoyed the latest Bosch and listened to it in record time. It was nice that they used Titus Welliver as one of the narrators-felt like I was hearing the real Bosch. The Rene Ballard character was a lot stronger in this book. I just wish the book had been a bit longer. The end felt a little rushed. I think there could have been more detail in the final scenes in Key West.

Historia
Bull Durham, the breakthrough 1988 film about a minor league baseball team, is widely revered as the best sports movie of all time. But back in 1987, Ron Shelton was a first-time director and no one was willing to finance a movie about baseball—especially a story set in the minors. The jury was still out on Kevin Costner’s leading-man potential, while Susan Sarandon was already a has-been. There were doubts. But something miraculous happened, and The Church of Baseball attempts to capture why.

Couldn't Stop Listening
Revisado: 07-16-22
I have always loved the movie Bull Durham, but in the past, I have been disappointed in books about movie making so I was a little skeptical when I started listening despite the good reviews, I read about the print version. At first, I was not really a fan of the author's voice, but that changed quickly after he got into the story. The author was exactly the right choice to read his own book. I listened to the whole book over two days, usually I pace myself, but I was so engrossed in the story that I had to keep listening. In short, best audio book I have listened to in a long time.

Series is Still Going Strong
Revisado: 02-28-22
This is one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. I'm a big fan of the series, but I was wondering it if would stay as interesting once Beau retired from the Seattle homicide department. This story is just as good as the early books in the series. I listened to it in just a few days-intriguing story with some interesting characters and a new setting in Alaska.
