Historia
The Russell women have always lived in a house that is as special as they are—a century-old Victorian with a radio that tunes itself to the listener’s mood and a pantry that rearranges to provide just the right ingredients for any baking need. Lilith Russell was the exception. She left the family home in Ivy Ridge, Georgia, and has been flitting like a hummingbird from place to place with her daughter, Mattie, in the decades since, only returning each summer to drop Mattie off with Lilith’s sister, Penelope.

Had some promise but very much a let down.
Revisado: 01-30-25
Didn't hate it but it was so boring. Feels like it's a book written by a young author thinking this is adult. Any twists were seen Iles ahead. Every now and then it seemed like it would finally get somewhere but never did. The characters were not fleshed out and the writing was just ok. Subtitle should have been women who are martyrs and how they rationalize it.

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Seems book club liked it more
Revisado: 10-31-24
Just never got taken by it. It started out OK but felt it was one note Suppose to be historical but I felt like it was modern; maybe because the language was very casual. Also the reader ha an American accent which wasn't that in the 18th century. My book club really liked it and the main character. Actually, found her to be pompous and self-righteous in a way she claimed the doctor was. It was more disappointing because I felt it had a lot of potential.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

Revelance to today
Revisado: 09-26-24
I have read some really scathing reviews from readers. I think I was the one who liked it the most of our group who read it. I thought it was well written and the reader brought it alive. it really struck me that I felt for the women. I thought, yeah, I can see why this happened. Then I related it to any group that is ignored and not valued. Also not being allowed to speak openly and ignoring science and experts also feels very today. I like dragons anyway but it immediately seemed so plausible. And I love how so much is optimistic.

Different
Revisado: 09-07-24
There were moments when it dragged a little but it was pretty intriguing. There were also a few things I felt were left unanswered but it was such a great combo of good storytelling with touches of supernatural. I can't often find that combo outside of stephen king. I could see a sequel.

In the minority but thought it was standard
Revisado: 04-04-24
Didn't think Molly was a fully developed character but maybe because it was Vivian"s story. Actually thought she was annoying although she is a teen. Thought the narration was subpar. Somehow a lot of people in mn sound southern. Might have liked it better if I read it. Not really a fan of books spanning lifetimes. Feels very Hallmark like but people seem to love this book. Just too predictable with a twist that didn't feel organic.

very stephen king although no supernatural things. some of my favorite characters. some may find it preachy, as he says, about the pandemic but it fits with the character and the variety of opinions. reader was excellent. mellow voice, kept characters distinct, just the right note of drama. enjoyed her a lot.

Just ok for me but most would probably like it.
Revisado: 08-08-23
I have not loved either of her books but I didn't think they were awful. Like a lifetime movie; kind of interesting but not quite memorable. Some really good moments but fairly predictable. Male reader is amazing. Female reader is too overwrought for my taste which surprised me because she's a really good actor. Dragged for me.

Not really that thrilling
Revisado: 04-28-23
Thought it was slow. So much so that I skipped ahead. Then it got better but just seemed under developed overall. Really didn't care about any of the characters. Steven Webber is wonderful and helped to tolerate getting through it.

Historia
Back in 1985, Frank Mackey was a nineteen-year-old kid with a dream of escaping his family's cramped flat on Faithful Place and running away to London with his girl, Rosie Daly. But on the night they were supposed to leave, Rosie didn't show. Frank took it for granted that she'd dumped him-probably because of his alcoholic father, nutcase mother, and generally dysfunctional family. He never went home again. Neither did Rosie. Then, twenty-two years later, Rosie's suitcase shows up.

Hard slog
Revisado: 02-12-23
Really struggled to get through this. The whodunit portion was maybe only 25%. The rest is a whole lot of talking that is uninteresting and doesn't advance the story. You have a lousy family. Yeah we got it. incredibly boring.

great listen
Revisado: 12-02-22
it has been hit and miss for me with the last few books. I loved this from the beginning. Of course, I was in the right mood for it as well and it ended just as I wanted.
Reader was excellent. Had no problems telling characters apart and he was very emotive. So much better than will Patton who I could never hear or differentiate.
