Historia
Scattered across the world, an elite team of code crackers is working tirelessly to thwart the defining cyber scourge of our time. You’ve probably never heard of them. But if you work for a school, a business, a hospital, or a municipal government, or simply cherish your digital data, you may be painfully familiar with the team’s sworn enemy: ransomware. Again and again, an unlikely band of misfits, mostly self-taught and often struggling to make ends meet, have outwitted the underworld of hackers who lock computer networks and demand huge payments in return for the keys.

Excellent and easy to listen
Revisado: 11-20-22
Working in the IT support field, nothing in this book was surprising except how old ransomware actually was, but it was nevertheless an enjoyable read, a well-told set of stories that came together to tell some true tales that is entertaining for an expert and easily approachable for anyone at a lower skill level, from hobbyists to business owners. Highly recommended!

Interesting apocalyptic character story
Revisado: 04-20-22
This story is told from the point of view of three characters, and it does a deep and poignant study of the apocalypse from their points of view (and especially two of them). The ending isn’t quite as satisfying as I’d personally prefer, but that’s personal preference and the stories are woven together with delicate and intentional word pictures. The characters feel almost creepily real while still maintaining some stereotype/caricature/analogy that makes them both relatable and not, likely based on your own experiences and worldview.
The codependency throughout is at times touching and at time gut-wrenching, sometimes both. Not necessarily my normal read, but I appreciated it and it made me think.

Historia
Technology-driven change is accelerating at an exponential rate, but moving fast in the wrong direction will only get you into trouble faster! Reacting to problems and digital disruptions, no matter how agile you and your organization are, is no longer good enough. The Anticipatory Organization teaches you how to separate the Hard Trends that will happen, from the Soft Trends that might happen, allowing you to jump ahead with low risk and the confidence certainty can provide.

Interesting but repetitive and not terribly practical
Revisado: 03-25-19
There are some practical idea here. Recording isn’t too bad at 2X normal speed but isn’t great. The content is interesting but I feel like it lacked a lot of practical application tips or examples and it seems to have assumed I read the author’s previous book to know how to evaluate future trends, which I haven’t yet (but it’s on my list).

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Anathem, Neal Stephenson is continually rocking the literary world with his brazen and brilliant fictional creations - whether he’s reimagining the past (The Baroque Cycle), inventing the future (Snow Crash), or both (Cryptonomicon).

Long but excellent and technologically prescient book
Revisado: 10-15-18
This is an insanely long audio book (40 hours), even on faster than normal speeds. However, it’s a story that builds slowly and, as others have noted, becomes hard to put down! I finished it in about 2 weeks, taking a week off in the middle for a trip.
A talented weaving of numerous storylines to an artful conclusion, and the expected handling of technology with the realism expected from the author. While, as most stories, there are many plot conveniences/coincidences for the story’s sake, they are generally satisfying and rarely technology-related.
Amazingly, though published in 2012, it’s incredibly relevant in 2018 (significantly more than 2012 in fact), making it another unusually-prescient piece. Another author would have waited to write it until 2019 :-)

Excellent
Revisado: 09-23-18
This book is great! Working slowly toward implementation in my business. I actually like Get A Grip, the fictional story about implementing Traction, a bit better than this version. I’d recommend it first and then this one, though I read this one first. That’s more practical with examples. I like the wholistic method presented of company management, addressing meetings, timing, vision, people, and process.
