Narcissistic Mothers Exploit Your Need to be Loved

Historia
Narcissistic mothers are hard to spot. All children have a tendency to see their mother through a tainted lens, one that causes a child to take responsibility for how a dysfunctional mother might cause them to feel rather than being able to comprehend the challenging dynamics. For example, a highly narcissistic mother, may exploit their child's need for approval, love, and validation. When those necessary needs are exploited, a child will naturally assume blame for not gaining a narcissistic mother's love. This results in feelings of shame and will also create emotional triggers tied to ...

Historia
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

When Audible did not mark the book as finished I listened to it again, because I seek to implement Atomic habits as described. It is unclear why I am judged so negatively, but negative feedback has lead to my life changes regardless of if the judgment was fair, correct or needed. With great habits I feel good about what ever direction I am going.

No influence with a sanity check about dysfunction
Revisado: 06-13-22
I listened to the last episode first then the first episode last, e.g. backwards was still good & learned a lesson about audible podcast defaults.
As an individual contributing worker I haven't been granted leading roles needed to influence others. I have left dysfunctional leaders for many of the reasons explained in this podcast. Although I am typically in a powerless situation, I believe that having this podcast knowledge will help me to explain leadership that I cannot change and respect, even though surely I was blamed unfairly for leaders dysfunctional behavior.
