Historia
In The Molecule of More: How a Single Chemical in Your Brain Drives Love, Sex, and Creativity—and will Determine the Fate of the Human Race, George Washington University professor and psychiatrist Daniel Z. Lieberman, MD, and Georgetown University lecturer Michael E. Long present a potentially life-changing proposal: Much of human life has an unconsidered component that explains an array of behaviors previously thought to be unrelated, including why winners cheat, why geniuses often suffer with mental illness, why nearly all diets fail, and more.

Fascinating listen on human behavior
Revisado: 08-30-23
This book is amazing. It discusses the core hypothesis in almost every aspect of human life and a must-listen for anyone who wants to know why we behave and feel the way we do as human beings. The authors apply some naive generalization in some sections without proper scientific evidence which is negligible. Also the core idea is repeated too many times but in different context so still worth a 5 star as it's not exactly repetition.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Such a waste of time
Revisado: 08-18-23
I bought this book after listening to Tim Ferriss's interview with Sheryl Strayed which was kind of interesting. I exclusively buy self-development books with minor exceptions such as this one when I find the author interesting. I downloaded this book and listened to it during a looong flight on 2x speed to the end and unfortunately was the only book I had downloaded to listen offline. Omg, it was such a terrible listen wrt content. The voice and performance was flawless though. The TL;DR of the whole book is saying that, I (the author) was a promiscuous young adult with family (mainly her mother's death) and relationship issues (which is quite common) and suddenly decided to go on a 1100 mile long hike to get away from everything (according to the author "self discovery"). Now this is an autobiography but includes a huge amount of irrelevant/made-up details. No one remembers that amount of details (by details, I mean just her feelings, both when she was alone and when meeting people) and not realistic that she had written them in her diaries/journal so lots of stuff is made up and extremely annoying to listen to when you just want to get to the bottom of the "self-discovery" part and what she learned. This said, if you like her writing style and just want to listen to a novel, then ignore this review.
After getting online, I researched the author and no surprise, she's famous as a writer (shame on you Tim Ferriss). This book teaches you nothing and only buy it if you are interested in detailed made up feelings (frustration, sensual and excitements) of a young person who's made bad decisions and wants to forget her pain. I'm writing this review right after returning the book.
***************
Spoiler alert on the "self-discovery" part if you don't want to buy the book
***************
It's pretty much the last 5 minutes of the book where she bought an ice cream or something at the end of the trail and reflected on the hike when it was over, literally learning nothing but some kind of piece to deal with her mother's death and saying that she met her husband some years later who she never had met before (nothing to do with the hike). The only thing I found interesting in this book was her last name which wasn't her real one but rather she chose during the hike i.e. "strayed".

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Overrated autobiography
Revisado: 05-06-23
This is a must-read if you're a big fan of MM and looking for a movie script kind of book but If you're like me who's looking for some inspiration, this boos is not worth your time. Here's why:
- Great performance and narration by the author except the random high pitch voices when he get's to "bumper sticker" or "note to self" parts which is quite annoying and also deceiving i.e. if he wanted to make a note to self, then why bother publish it?
- The "note to self" and bumper stickers mentioned above are all cliche and there's nothing new there. Just tells the story how he realized it based on his own experience
- Semi-interesting life story but overall the whole book is a modest self-indigence. A great book for his close friends and family rather than public audience IMO
- Could've been a good inspiring book if the author had overcome a major setback in life such as a physical or mental disadvantage and despite that, managed to become a famous actor which is not the case. The whole story is just letting the world know that he (believes) had a great adventurous life
- Not even purely entertaining since it's mainly focused on his personal insights which most of the people in this planet experience during their life time. Would've given it more stars if the author at least had a sense of humor.
All and all, there's absolutely no doubt that MM is an excellent actor but this book ruined it for me to be honest because the book is not entertaining enough and also there's no message in it other than saying "Hey guys, I had a relatively good life experience with ups and downs (nothing dramatic though) and just wanted to share it with you which also includes some cliche rules to live by"

Great insight and details of how alcohol works
Revisado: 12-28-22
I knew most of the details beforehand but there are some really excellent insights in this book that are new or you thought you knew but the author explains them in a new and compelling perspective. It's a must-listen for anyone who's drank even one unit of alcohol during their lives. The only feedback I can give for the author is to also include cases where the person drinks for the excitement (not the relaxation), i.e. people who are more prone to produce extra dopamine when they drink or to have an adventure while in their balanced state never happens and needless to say as we all know without exception any binge drinking leads to disaster.

Achieve more with less effort: The secret to weight loss, fitness, and wellness lies in the most basic and most overlooked function of your body - how you breathe. One of the biggest obstacles to better health and fitness is a rarely identified problem: chronic overbreathing. We often take many more breaths than we need without realizing it, contributing to poor health and fitness, including a host of disorders, from anxiety and asthma to insomnia and heart problems.

Brilliant yet could have been shorter
Revisado: 04-04-19
Fresh new perspective on breathing and it all makes sense. A must read for every one however as many others also have cited, it could have been way shorter. I have rated 4 stars only for too many repetition of the same concept otherwise the core material is excellent.

The book started very funny and intresting but the story got twisted too much to the point that I stopped listening. Listen all the way in one go and focused or forget it. Performance wise, the voices are excellent except one character which is really on your nerves

Not Nearly as Good as the Podcast

Absolute waste of time
Revisado: 12-11-18
Emotional crap. This book is a recording of couple of therapy sessions of the author's clients. The therapy has no value, is vague without any scientific basis. It's just a bunch of emotional episodes that the clients go through during therapy. I've never been to any couples therapy (as a disclaimer, I've never been in a serious relationship) but if it's anything like this then I'd say the therapy is a scam and a guessing game. I can't imagine why the author would want to publish these recordings as a book other than self promotion.

Excellent book on the subject, short and to the point. The only problem is the narration. The narrator sounds robotic, hysteric and rough on the high pitch
